I just graduated my BSN program May 9th. I am now in the process of preparing for the boards. Can anyone suggest which NCLEX book is the best to prepare from, Kaplan or Saunders?
Thanks
Your NCLEX exam will be uniquely yours, drawn from thousands of available questions. No one can tell you with any certainty what to concentrate on, because no one's examination will be like yours. It's expected that you will be able to prove minimum competency (whatever that is!) to the NCLEX. It's expected that you'll be able to recall basic nursing information in order to answer questions related to the care of patients. Some people may have lots of questions that require you to know about lab values; some won't. Some will have lots of questions about OB/GYN; some won't. Some may have lots of questions about medications; some won't. That's why the study materials are so massive; they have to include so much information, and realistically, very little of that information will be on your exam.
I found the "NCLEX-RN-Reviews and Rationales" by Prentice-Hall to be invaluable, as well as the Saunders and Kaplan guides.
I wish you much good luck and success!
another Saunders lover here- love the nuts & blts review to keep you on track-Mosby has a similarly formatted one that I love too...we have to do ATI and I LOVE those books too! also, Med Surg Success and Delegation, Prioritization, ---- are 2 others-our teachers will format q's from them
I brought many books when I was studing for the boards but none helped me as much as Kaplan. I chose the Kaplan strategies 2010 Nclex-RN edition. Part of the book explains how to breakdown and answer questions for the boards. There are 2 practice test in the back of the book and it also has a disk with over 200 questions.
I used all the techniques in the book.
When I took the boards, passed the 1st time with 75 questions....
GOOD LUCK to you....
