Published

Ok OK..... Question LPNs...

Where have you worked as a LPN..????

I would like to see where all I can work when I become a LPN....

Hospitals are out the question I understand that they dont use them anymore in hospital..

But I would like to know other places Thank You

It all depends on where you live. Some hospitals still hire LPNs but it depends on the area. Many are phasing LPNs out and many LPNs are going back to school if they want to stay in this area of nursing. As an LPN you can work in a doctor's office, an ALF, skilled/LTC facility, rehab, home health, some insurance companies, jails, etc. Just check the type of opportunities that you are interested in with the employers in your area to know if they hire LPNs vs. RNs, or in some cases, neither. Many doctors offices are now hiring medical assistants instead of nurses.

Specializes in NICU, telemetry.

I am not an LPN, but a couple of the hospitals around here will still hire LPNs. Most LPNs here work in outpatient settings.

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

I've worked in corrections, LTC, PDN & drug rehab.

I've worked at SNF, Rehab for TBI and Spinal Cord injuries, ER, and now LTC which seems to pay the higest paying opportunity I've had yet. I've been a nurse for 19 years.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

During my four years as an LVN I had worked in several nursing homes, physical rehab (stroke, debility, & orthopedic recovery), and one psychiatric hospital.

It really depends on where you are. I am a LPN who works in a trauma/er/acc acute medicine hospital.

I have worked in a hospital (surgical floor and cath lab holding), in a Podiatry clinic, Chiropractic office, Cardiology office, LTC, and currently in a Family Practice office.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

I worked in acute Rehab (SCI, TBI, post-OP Ortho), Pedi Home Health (PDN and Skilled) pedi orthopedic surgeons office, LTC, CMS chart review, and a Medical Daycare.

It totally depends on the area.

Where do you live that they're phasing LPNs out of hospitals? Where I am, LPNs are extremely active everywhere. The RN and LPN scope is very much similar and each unit (except ICU's, Emerg, L&D) hire basically 1/2 and 1/2. The LPN will have just as acute Pts as the RN.

LPN starting wage here is 33.08 and the RN starting wage is 34.60 (although the RN wage goes higher)

I am conjecturing you are located in Canada, where the LPN scope of practice is wider, wages are higher, and LPNs are utilized in hospitals.

The vast majority of the membership/commentariat is located in the States, where many LPNs have been phased out of hospitals in favor of an all RN staff.

That's so unfortunate :( my preceptor worked in and out of the states and she had nothing but good things to say about the work there, but that was long ago.

Some of The RNs are still attempting to do that here, but it isn't working out.

Sorry to hear that, I hope you find work in the area you want OP! It really is a rewarding career.
