i know i definetly do not want to work in a hospital. i think i would enjoy a ltc. just because for some reason i just love our elders. it would be nice to see the same faces everyday, and actually know who you are taking care of. the only drawback to this is the hours, and i have three small children and my husband works from 3pm-11pm, and we try to make sure that one of us are home with the kids. so.....for this reason, i do think that i will apply at a dr office. just because the hours are so convient, and no weekends. but on the other hand....i want experience, and im not sure, but i could be wrong....you wont get to see half of the stuff you would see in the hospital in a dr office...ya know???? anyway.....post where you wanna work and why.

I currently work as atech on a trauma floor and I love it. I definitely plan to stay in the hospital setting - Just don't know where yet!

Hospital for sure on this end - Greenville Hospital Sysytem in Greenville SC or St Franics Bon Secours for a while until I leave the upstate.

In a setting where I can know my patients outcomes. The one thing that I don't like about the hospital setting is how I care for them a few days and then they are gone. We start discharge planning upon admission. It's such a quick turn-around, and I find that I often wonder whether the care we gave impacted their health long term.

So... maybe a re-hab hospital, or hospice, community health? I dunno... I've got another year and 1/2. Plenty of time to figure it out.

well, i've bounced back and forth w/ this topic alot, but think i'm going to try psych nursing first, if i don't like it i can always switch to something different.

med/surg is so task oriented and as i move up in my pt. load at clinical i barely have time to ask the necessary questions let alone find out any psychosocial issues they may be having and that bothers me! so, yeh i'm going to try psych!

I definitely want to work in a hospital, at least at first. No clue what unit. I am trying to be open minded as much as possible. I think eventually I might like to try home health nursing when I am more confident in my abilities. Eventually I would like to go back for my master's and either be a NP or CNS.

Oh I forgot to add probably the most important reason I want to become a nurse! I want to either join the Peace Corps, or Doctors Without Borders (MSF). Either one, not sure which yet, or some kind of volunteer work with nursing. This is the most important thing to me, so I really want to do something with that. If I do PC then I will do it right after I graduate, and then if I do MSF I will first gain experience, then do it. Is anyone else interested in this?

I would like to work at a Hospital....

I'm leaning towards Nicu, L&D, or Peds....

I feel so un-easy around elderly people....I know Nicu would be hard, but I KNOW I can love on them & comfort them....

I guess I know more than likely I'll get to be "elderly" and that stresses me out some....

My friend keeps telling me that I'll end up in LTC since I'm soooo set against it...She said it usually works out that the one area you were so afraid of ends ups being the are you love the most....

I want to work where I will be the best nurse I can be, and also in an area that I have a lot of passion about.

Right now, I'm thinking ER or peds. I plan to go back to school for my NP or PA (we happened to have more PA here than NPs) and really am interested in diabetes as well. I have so many interests is my problem!!

What I like about nursing is if you find yourself in an area that isn't the best fit for you, you can move on to another area. Not too many jobs that offer that.

Definately L&D, nursery or NICU eventually, have known since I was a small child thats what I would do.

I'm undecided. Hoping clinicals will give me a better idea. I do like the technical stuff, so maybe OR? Or ICU?

I'm on my first quater of NS, but I think I would never want to work in outpatient setting. This is so boring. I need an adrenaline rush. I 'm thinking ICU, OR, may be cardiology, ortho. Not sure yet.
