Where are there jobs in Texas?

Published

Hellllllooooooo Texas!

I am a new grad RN from California who is looking to relocate. After a very dedicated 7 month search for a job in my state I am throwing in the towel (its about time for a good adventure anyway). Where in Texas do they need new grads... and be honest. From what I have read on here Dallas in touch and go, there are no jobs in Austin, but are there really jobs for newbies in San Antonio? I would love some input.

San Antonio - there are several hospitals - Christus, NIX, Baptist, Methodist, VA, Brooks Army Hospital, University. Other than several hospitals - more I haven't named - the construction never stops here. As soon as a new specialty hospital is buildt, another starts to include several specialty clinics. There are also several agencies here, about 1/3 will hire new bees.

Hiring freezes? I keep reading everywhere that there are serious shortages here in the DFW area. and that everyone is hiring... I am really confused as to why there would be freezes when everyone keeps saying that there always jobs for nurses and for people in the medical field.

Google the Hosptals in D/FW area and check out their Employment Postings. If you live in this area take a GPS and drive to an area you would like to work and then have your GPS locate the Hospitals in the area and write them down and then go back home and Google each hosptial and do the on - line Application.

Baylor HealthCare had a huge Job Fair a few weeks ago, MCH had a Job Fair last week.

If you are skeptical about jobs, go look for yourself and find your answer...:typing

I only saw 2 jobs listed both looking for nurses with experience. Nursing jobs are always available but many times in hard economic times one must take positions they would not usually consider.

I also know in my area many hospitals participate in Job Fairs even when no jobs are available. The reason is one must book months to years in advance. Job Fairs is not an indicator of jobs available nor are online postings.

Nurses who have been recently hired can you post your experiences, for example how long did it take you to get hired.

My husband's job is based in Texas, this year most employees did not get raises and the employees who did got a max of 3%. So I guess the economy in Texas is effected , not to the extent of other states, but it is not booming like it was a few years ago.

What are nurses getting for raises this year? Are the generous?

Specializes in Cardiology/Telemetry.

What about Corpus Christi? Does anyone have the answer? And what is the pay like?

My family and I are looking to relocate from Canada (tired of the winters). I am an RN with 10 years experience, 8 in Telemetry/Cardiology/CV Surgery. Any advice would help!

Being a life long Texas nurse I hope I can help you. Austin job market is really tight right now. Jobs are posted but they are not looking to fill most of the positions. Baptist in San Antonio just implemented a hiring freeze from what I have been told. Methodist has lots of positions posted for grads and nurse externs. Christus has lots of positions posted. Corpus is pretty limited even during boom times. I heard Methodist in Dallas and many in Houston are still hiring. Be careful in taking anything offered, it can sometimes be more damaging than helpful if your first job is the wrong job. I think things are going to be really slow until fall comes.

Specializes in OBGYN.

FYI, the Versant program in Austin is run 4 times a year, not twice. And there absolutely are jobs in Austin, just maybe not the exactly perfect one you might want. But a lot of people get lucky here and land great jobs in their department of first choice!

Many smaller towns outside of the big cities are hiring. Try Conroe and Livingston outside of Houston. Tyler and Nacogdoches have great hospitals to work for, but they each have lots of grads about to come out of schools near. The smaller towns have a much more 'family' quality to their staff. The pay is not what it is in the city for a GN (about $20) but the cost of living is a bit lower than the city.

Good luck to you.

Ouch. A first year RN up here makes $30.80/hour to start before premiums.

Pay Rate per Cost Of Living is what really matters.

In D/FW area New Grads start around $22.00 per hour, Average House Cost based upon 1500 Sq Ft house is around $120,000

In Philippines Nurses make around .50 cent per hour, and Average House Cost $10,000
