Where Is The Worst place to work in Florida?

Published

Hello All Florida Nurses & Travelers

I want everyone to be Upfront & Honest With this One! Where is the Absolute WORST PLACE to work as an RN, Or as a Nurse in General In any part of Florida? I want to know of any places that I should avoid, such as Backbreaking work, Low Pay, Poor Staffing, anything considered Negative or Unsuitable. Also, High Liability too. I would much rather hear it straight from the horses mouth instead of finding out the hard way! All Honest Opinions & Personal Experiences will be Greatly Appreciated! If anyone wants to know about California, just ask. Please Respond. Thanks;)

As a teenager (like most in FL), I worked a summer at Disney in one of the shows. It is highly, HIGHLY overrated.

They tend to "script" everything for all employees. The perfect "Disney" smile, strict regulations on hair cut, hair color, makeup, clothing, piercings, tats. Using the "Disney" language, you must keep a smile on NO MATTER WHAT!!!! No derogatory language whatsoever.

You start to feel like a pod person.

And, yes, the regs apply to anyone that has any contact with the public....because it is the "Happiest Place on Earth".

(the first time I went to a non-Florida park...I think that it was a SixFlags, and encountered the "non-Disney" attitude..I was in shock)

A slightly more palatable alternative. Florida Hospital (the Adventist group) runs the hospital at Celebration (Disney's planned community), Florida. I believe that things are not as "Disney" there.

I love going to disney!! I love the way their employees are, everyone is always has a smile, greet me with smiles, and honestly that is how I am daily in my life, so it makes me feel very happy when I am there.

when I go to the other parks non disney, I see the way those employees are, and of course, I don't like it and just think "ok it's not disney"

I agree, the cast members are great! In their training, they are taught that they are putting on a show every day and that the guests are the top priority. Yup, one cannot compare Disney to other parks. :)

In Southeast Florida, avoid Bethesda and West Boca Medical Center. These facilities are notoriously toxic to nursing life.

I am travel RN and I have been in South Florida for a year. I keep renewing my contract at South Miami Hospital which is a part of the Baptist Health System and I really like it there. I think I want to sign on Per-Diem and take a contract some where else for extra money. Can anyone give me advice about Cedars, Aventura, Kendall Regional or West Palm Beach Community?

i worked at west boca and i really enjoyed it...hope to get back there eventually.

I've heard the same thing from enough people (I've never worked for HCA personally), that I think this is fairly decent advice.

i think it just depends on which floor you are on. i've worked for both baycare and hca.. the floor i was on with baycare was just so busy you couldn't give the best of care... if fact, i was often unable to give care that i myself was satisfied with. the idea that a nonprofit is better because is it nonprofit is just pure nonsense. a nonprofit is steered at the top by executives bent on making big $$. you will get terrible staffing ratios at times. of course, management would want us not to let patients know how many patients you had, etc.

all in all, i prefer the hca facility. i find management to be much more honest and straightforward.

The top dogs at not-for-profits are making salaries that are fairly common for top dogs at hospitals (which is a bit high in my opinion.......$400,000 per year????).

But your right not-for-profits focus is on making a profit, to keep the doors open, to expands, etc. and the ratios can be rough.

Nursing in Florida is tough.

What about the Fort Myers-Naples area? I love that part of the state and thought of one day retiring there and working prn at one of those hospitals?

Worst place in Florida to work?

They are part of the Baycare hospital system. But I've heard good things about Morton Plant. They seem to have a better budget for staffing/staff development type of stuff.

depends on where you are. you might find yourself with a doable assignment, and you might find yourself overwhelmed.

i for one am not all that impressed with morton plant staffing ratios given the acuity of patients. why don't you come back in here and let us know how you found it?
