Where are all the happy nurses?

Published

So I was wondering where in America are the happy nurses? If you are happy with your work environment, please share with us what hospital system you work for and what state. And tell us what you love and hate about your hospital.:D

I'll get us started by saying, I visited Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI. The weather is terrible, but the hospital itself is well organized. 0.7 is considered full time and any extra shifts are overtime pay. There's computer charting outside the room, a locker room for you to shower after work, and they wash your scrubs for you. It is unionized though(not sure if that's a good or bad thing)

Okay, I'm a new grad but right now I'm loving my job. I am lucky to have found a hospital that has great staff, for the most part. Of, course, there is the salt in my drink, but you know I've worked alot of different places & well you have downers everywhere you go. So I'm happy now, glad I have a few fellow classmates with me & taking every day one at a time. Will I have bad nights, of course, will I have good ones I hope... but as another posted said, life is just to short to dwell on the little things. Leave work @ work and move on.

Specializes in labor & delivery.

I work for an HCA facility in Texas! I work in L&D on days... I work 3 12's with an occasional critical need bonus.... and I LOVE my job! I work with great people and for a great hospital.... I have a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio... and most of my co-workers are just as happy as I am!! I wish everyone loved their job as much as I do!!

I am happy. I work postpartum and usually its a happy place to be. I work nights and the other nurses I work with are amazing. Management is less than desirable but by working nights I get to avoid most of the drama. Most of the dr.s are ok. I guess the only thing is that I know I will not be a bedside nurse forever. I am already scoping out other opportunities where I can keep growing professionally - such as NP or midwife.

Specializes in ER.

I'm also at an HCA in Texas, and I love where I work. The pay is good, and I have been treated very well by the wonderful folks in my ER. Sure, there are things about policy that may not thrill me. But it is more than made up for by getting to work with the great folks on my team.

Specializes in Telemetry, Case Management.

I work for a major medicare advantage insurance company. I love it here. I work 8 to 5, have personal days, sick days, vacation days. Nobody whines when you call in sick, they do your work for you if they can! We get catered meals on holidays (including so far, Mardi Gras Day and Halloween, as well as Christmas and Thanksgiving). We got a really nice Christmas party during work hours (got paid for it) and took on a large yacht!!!! I know this sounds like so much BS, but I never realized such a job was possible!!! I am thrilled and hope to stay here for the rest of my career. I would just die if I had to go back to the hospital to work.

Specializes in ICU, ER.

I work in a small, community hospital near Philadelphia. We have a nice salary (I can make $100,000 with OT), great benefits, a well-staffed ER, great coworkers and good management.

Specializes in Oncology, Medical-Surgical.

I work in Oncology and deal with a lot of dying patients and frantic families every single day but I can say I'm a happy nurse. Why? My co-workers are fun! We have teamwork and we manage to have good laughs once in a while.

Specializes in LTC, MDS Cordnator, Mental Health.

I love what I do, We have a very nice Long term Care facility in a college town so we have plenty of LPN's and NA's that are easy to replenish. I consider it a safe place to work... I love my residents. I am Charge nurse and I manage the Assisted living section... I know one of the resons I am happy is because I DONOT work in a hospital... the pace there is inhuman!!!!

I wonder if we changed the question to, "where are all the happy bedside nurses, particularly the med/surg floor nurses?", what kind of responses we would get.

Med/surg is the area I would go into (I think) post-graduation. But I don't sense a lot of sunshiny vibes coming from that area.

Specializes in ICU, CCU, Trauma, neuro, Geriatrics.

I am happy, I am a travel nurse. My current assignment is rural nursing in Maine at a very small hospital. Everyone is friendly and works together.

Specializes in Med Surg/Tele/ER.

I just went to ER from MS.....I do love MS......it is hard, but I learned so much plus I know I made a difference! I always loved it when my patients would say, I sure hope you are my nurse tomorrow night. Yeah...that made me feel warm & fuzzy! :redbeathe:heartbeat

Now ER is just my thing :yeah: totally different from MS.

I look foward to going to work. My co-workers are a great bunch of people! We are a rural hospital with a busy ER! Loving ER !!!
