Where is everyones little secret hide out to go study?
I study in my room, sat on my bed, My computer takes up all of my desk, and I find the libary too noisy, people never seem to sit still long enough!
If I have a problem I am stuck on I go and sit on the stairs, I have had this habbit since I was very young, and I fin that any problem, studying or real life I can find the answer best on a quiet staircase!!

i was surfing other nursing boards and one post suggested studying with classical music in the background. has anyone tried this, if so, how did it work for you?
sure, it's the only music i can listen to while studying. but if the piece is particularly good i will find myself concentrating more on the music than my notes. supposedly listening to mozart helps improve your exam performance. studies have been done on this. and of course, he's one of my favorite composers!
but generally i prefer it quiet with no music.
I study in our bedroom, where the computer and my desk are located, with classical or New Age (like Enya or yoga) music playing and some nice scented candles burning. I also turn off the phone extension in there, because I hate the phone ringing when I'm trying to concentrate. I've got my husband and kids trained to leave me alone unless someone is bleeding or turning blue (we've had that rule since they were little...the "red, white and blue" rule), but I'm having a hard time teaching my two Shetland Sheepdogs not to bark when the bedroom door is closed.
I've tried studying at Barnes & Noble, but the patrons at the one near my house just get too loud for me to focus, plus there are way too many distractions...all the books I'd rather be reading instead of Microbiology and Nutrition! So I'm better off at home where its easier to control my environment.
At the dining room table. There's tons of room for all my books and notebooks and it's close to a window with a view of the birdfeeder, so I can rest my "dry study eyes" on the squirrels and birds every so often. Also, I love to play Enya while studying. It's soothing, calming and blocks out all the house noises, without distracting me.

i don't listen to classical music but i do load up a few new-age/celtic cds and study to that (yes, i listen to enya too -- i love her music). it helps me think...relaxes my brain, if that makes any sense.

If I got some serious studyiage to do, I head over to my best guy friend's house. He is also a student and we are both nerds. I take my books into a room, he takes his into another and then....complete silence. To study with complete silence is like a gift from God compared to my usual studying scenarios. Usually, kids are screaming in the background, getting into trouble, wreaking havoc. My BP skyrockets and my potential for retaining is very minimal.

Since my kids are still young and not in school yet I study mostly at night. My favorite places to study though (not that I really get more out of it but I like the atmosphere) are Barnes and Noble or the library. But usually its the couch or the dining room table for me after the kids are in bed.
