Where is everyone from?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

hello everyone! :D

i am from norman, oklahoma. i am in my middle 20's trying to go back to school (lpn nursing school that is) then possibly rn school after i get on with a hospital. i have been out of college for 5 years and it is a little hard to go back. i have to get motivated to suceed. my parents do not want me to be a nurse. they think it is too dangerous of a career, might catch some kind of cauntagious sickness or disese. i want more than anything to be able to help people and have a better meaning in life. i want a great career that i can be proud of and other people will be proud of me. i know it is hard to get into nursing school, but i can do anything if i work hard and put my mind to it. i would love to make some new online friends, no matter where your from or what kind of nursing. let me know.

where are you from? what is your current situation?

i am studying for the act compass and about to take medical terminology and try to go to a votech probably.

thanks for reading, please respond. :)

hi everyone!

i'm 34 y/o, and have been married for 12 years. dh and i have 4 children, two boys and two girls, and we live in west central florida, just north of tampa. i've been a sahm for the last 7 years, but i just got hired prn at the local hospital in er registration. i started taking my adn pre-requisites when we were living in michigan in fall 2004, and will jump back in again this fall now that we're settled back in fl. i can't wait!

I'm from Chicago Illinois, I entered the nursing program when I was 18 also. First year pre reqs and 1 year adn program I passed and am now a lpn. I am now in my 2nd year of the adn program and will be 21 in a month. I am in my last semester and feel like I am going to fail this course acute. It is so hard. But I will keep on trying my best and know I am a lpn. Anyone else having problems in their last year of a adn nursing program.

Hey all, nice to read the intros here. I'm Angela, 39yo, married mama of a 10 year old daughter (who suddenly wants to paint her fingernails black - deliver me, I must have the youngest wannabe goth on the planet!). I live in NW Maryland about 3 hours east of Pittsburg and 1.5 (to 3, depending on time of day!) hours northwest of Washington, D.C. I work fulltime as a legal secretary at big trade association in DC. I've been doing pre-reqs at the community college one county over, about 30 miles away, for a year now and still have at least 2 years to go before applying to a nursing program. Just found out though that, due to special consideration given to county residents, there's no way I can get into my current college's evening/weekend ADN program so I'm currently reconsidering my options.

I'm not feeling a lot of support from DH so I'm grateful to have other willbenurses to talk with - thanks to you ALL for being here! :)

24 y/o BSN student. I currently live in Oregon, born in Norway, but raised everywhere (military upbringing). Best of luck to all on this thread!

Hi all! I'm going to be 30 =[ in a few months, married, have 2 beautiful children my daughter is 2 1/2 years and my son is almost 8 months. I'm a SAHM and less than part time student at DCCCD.

I lived in Edmond, Ok for a couple of years, I loved that place ... not as expensive as it is here. I am timing my nursing education around my children...plan to get my ADN by 2013, my BSN by 2015, and my CRNA by 2018. Have my fingers crossed. Nice to meet everyone.

Hello, I am currently living in Landstuhl, Germany, We have lived here for 4 years and are moving to Ft. Rucker, Alabama in May where I plan to put in a application to a ADN program. I am 34 and have been taking my pre-req over since there is no nursing program. I have always wanted to go into nursing but since my husband is military we are always moving. I am not letting anything stop me from trying this time. I feel if I dont at least try this I will regret it til the day I die. I have tried many different fields of work but I still keep going back to wanting a nursing degree. So I guess its my calling. I feel as if I am getting too old as well to do this but like I said if I dont I will hate myself.

Good luck

Amy

I am German, my husband is military and we are stationed in San Antonio, TX. I fully understand how difficult it is to have to move so frequently. That's the reason why I am slow to get my college degree. We are looking at retirement and it will be easier for me to reach my goal. I hope you enjoy your stay in Landstuhl.

We have enjoyed every minute of being in Europe. We have traveled all over and seeing things people pay thousands of dollars to see. Its been great but time to get back to the good ole USA.. You will never know how wonderful the states are until your gone for 4 years. I have loved Germany but its time to get on with my career.

Hi, I'm a 25 y/o wife and mother of a 3 month old daughter in the Dallas, Tx metro area. I will be finished with my prerequisites this summer to apply to a couple of ADN programs in the area. Hoping that I can get into a program by Spring 2007.

Specializes in NA.

I am attending the Ivy Tech State College in Columbus, IN. It is about a half an hour commute from where I live. I hope to get my ASN and then transfer to IUPU Columbus for my BSN. I hope to work at Columbus Regional Hospital. It is a magnet nursing hospital and I have heard excellent things about it.

Hi everyone! I am 37 and live in Portland, Maine though originally I am from Annapolis, Maryland area. My partner of 9 years and I moved to Maine 3 years ago. We have 4 dogs (yes we are crazy!) 2 greyhounds and 2 great danes. I love living in maine and exploring the great outdoors I just wish we had more snow this winter! I think someone else got ours this year!

Previously I worked in the computer field and had no problem finding a job till I moved to Maine. I finally found a job at LLBean and worked there for over a year when they laid me off in January. Needless to say it was very unexpected.

The week before the layoff, the news, newspaper and my partners friend were all talking about nursing shortages and how you will always have a job wherever you go. I've always been fascinated with "blood and guts" (my dad was a meat cutter who came home with some pretty nasty wounds that I got drafted to help with!) and enjoy watching Discovery Health channel and various forensic shows.

The timining in the layoff, my desire to have a career and not just a job, as well as the ability to actually get enrolled in classes made my decsion easy for me. I am waiting to hear if I was accepted into the Nursing program for the fall and if I am accepted I will keep taking full loads in the Summer and Fall so I can get my pre-req's done. If I am not accepted (they only take applications for the fall so I'd have to wait till next year) then I will only take a few classes this summer and fall and try again for next year.

I am taking a full load and loving A&P I with all it's "stuff". I am taking some classes at the community college (it's cheaper and they transfer!) and taking classes at the University (with the 4 yr nursing program) trying to get the pre-reqs all done.

I am loving this website and all it's help and encouragement! So far I am doing okay in school but struggling a little with chemistry. My brain gets so bored with it and my eyes just fog over when trying to study it. Any one else have a similar problem? What did you do? I've found putting the flash cards under my pillow at night just aren't sinking in well enough! :chuckle

Sorry the reply is so long.

My name is Laura, I live in Columbus Georgia and I have not started school yet. I am already looking into textbooks and on the web for info so I can get a head start, but I have to get a job first before I can go back to school. I am married and have 3 girls.

there is no place like home....X-Mas is always really rough on me over here in the US. I get terribly homesick :( even after 20 years. My husband will be stationed somewhere else and I get to stay here behind, all alone with my son in this foreign country, at least my English is good enough and I know my way around. I'll lkeep going to classes, that's going to be my occupation until he comes back. Hopefully I will be accepted into a nursing program here in SA after I am done.
