hello everyone!
i am from norman, oklahoma. i am in my middle 20's trying to go back to school (lpn nursing school that is) then possibly rn school after i get on with a hospital. i have been out of college for 5 years and it is a little hard to go back. i have to get motivated to suceed. my parents do not want me to be a nurse. they think it is too dangerous of a career, might catch some kind of cauntagious sickness or disese. i want more than anything to be able to help people and have a better meaning in life. i want a great career that i can be proud of and other people will be proud of me. i know it is hard to get into nursing school, but i can do anything if i work hard and put my mind to it. i would love to make some new online friends, no matter where your from or what kind of nursing. let me know.
where are you from? what is your current situation?
i am studying for the act compass and about to take medical terminology and try to go to a votech probably.
thanks for reading, please respond. :)

Hello Eeryone!
I am from central Indiana. I'm 31, married for 8 years, have 3 daughters 12, 6, 4. I'm attending Ivy Tech State College, Lafayette Campus. I received my acceptance letter Saturday and will be starting the nursing program Fall of 2006!! I have been a stay at home mom for the last 6 1/2 years and I'm looking forward to having a career outside the house. I am a little sad though, this will be my last summer with the kids (being at home). In the Fall all of my kids will be in school, so it will make it a little easier for me to be in nursing school full time. I'm starting to get nervous because I know it is going to be very hard and time consuming, but all of my family is very supportive, which helps a lot.
Good Luck to Everyone!
HI! I am 25 and married with no children (yet). I was born on the island of Trinidad & Tobago and lived there until I was 8 yrs old. Since then my family has lived in NY (Brooklyn) and now PA. I left home at 18 and joined the Navy, I was stationed in NJ and have been to: Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Bahrain, Yemen, and Dubai. I met my wonderful husband on my first ship and we married in 2001. I currently live in Virginia Beach, Virginia and we've been here since 2001. My hubby is in the middle east right now (Bahrain) and he'll be back in Jan '07. I hope to start nursing school in August of this year. Good luck to all, and it is wonderful meeting all of you!
Hello everyone, I am a 25 y/o married mother of 3 beautiful girls. I just started my prereqs I have a long way to go. But I enjoy school, I am having fun and learning at the same time. And it also gets me out of the house at night.( I have a home daycare at my house during the day)
That's how I started out! I have 3 beautiful girls of my own, went to school at night and babysat 4 great kids (who I miss!) during the day. I quit babysitting and went to day classes when my oldest started having trouble in school. I will start the nursing program in the fall!
You will get There! Good Luck!
Nice to meet you too! Thanks for the reply! I am glad you can relate. I am actually about to go to work, retail sales right now. Still studying for the ACT. Do you know what score you have to make on the ACT to make it into nursing school? I am afraid of failure. I have always done great in school. Thanks again! Have a great day! :)~Valerie~
I am from Carthage, MS. I am trying to get my prereq. out of the way so I can get into nursing. You have to make a 16 on the act for LPN and a 18 on the ACT for RN

I am 35 years old and a mother of 2. I haven't had anykind of college until now. I am almost finished with my prereq.'s. I started last semester, and I took the ACT. I made a 16, I think that is good to have been out of school 17 years. I retook it on Feb.11, 2006. I am still waiting on the results. I need a 18 to get into RN...say a prayer.

That is GREAT!
I'm sure you will do even better the second time! I will say a prayer for you.
Prayer works wonders! I had never been to college either. I was 30 when I started and so far, with two pre-reqs left, I have a 4.0 GPA. I would not be where I'm at now without His help.

hi!
i am a new rn in north texas. my advice is to do whatever is going to make you happy; that's what is most important! my thought going into nursing is i will always have a job. i don't think they'll be able to replace nurses with computers. as far as catching some bizarre disease, it's not highly likely. plus, there are many "lower risk" positions for a person with a nursing degree.
yes, nursing school is not easy, but it is worth it. if it's what you really want, go for it! if your family is not supportive of you, just explain to them how you feel, and that you would really appreciate their support. i would think that they would at least respect you for setting a goal and going for it.
if they refuse to back you on your decision, you've got allnurses.com! :)
we'll cheer you on!
hi all,
i'm 22 years old, attached but no children. i graduated from adult high school and for the past year have been taking college classes, but for adn and all the general classes for a bsn. i still have to take chem, algebra (really need to review it), speech, a&p, and micro for adn. i plan on applying for programs at the beginning of 2007.
