hello everyone!
i am from norman, oklahoma. i am in my middle 20's trying to go back to school (lpn nursing school that is) then possibly rn school after i get on with a hospital. i have been out of college for 5 years and it is a little hard to go back. i have to get motivated to suceed. my parents do not want me to be a nurse. they think it is too dangerous of a career, might catch some kind of cauntagious sickness or disese. i want more than anything to be able to help people and have a better meaning in life. i want a great career that i can be proud of and other people will be proud of me. i know it is hard to get into nursing school, but i can do anything if i work hard and put my mind to it. i would love to make some new online friends, no matter where your from or what kind of nursing. let me know.
where are you from? what is your current situation?
i am studying for the act compass and about to take medical terminology and try to go to a votech probably.
thanks for reading, please respond. :)

it's nice to meet you! i'm 29 and from western pa (not far from pittsburgh). i am married and have 3 (soon to be 4) children. i also have a bachelors degree in education, but have decided that i would much rather be a nurse. (nursing is more flexible with small children at home). therefore, i'm going back to school to get my lpn at a local tech school with their evening/weekend program.
i can relate to you, as some of my family members have been trying to talk me out of nursing as well. however, i have my heart set on it and i'm moving forward to realize my dream.
anyway, it's nice to meet you. good luck!

Nice to meet you too! Thanks for the reply! I am glad you can relate. I am actually about to go to work, retail sales right now. Still studying for the ACT. Do you know what score you have to make on the ACT to make it into nursing school? I am afraid of failure. I have always done great in school. Thanks again! Have a great day! :)

Hi ladies.
I'm 18, from southern Maryland. I will (hopefully) be entering the clinical portion of the ADN program here in Spring 07. Most of students I am petitioning with are much older than me, 24+, so I feel out of place most of the time.. My parents are both RNs. My mother gives nothing but encouragement but my father will routinely try to talk me out my career choice (different experiences, I guess).
About the ACT: In order to apply for the nursing program here, you have to have an ACT score of 20 or higher. I highly recommend purchasing a book like Idiot's Guide to the ACT (or the dummies version). I read it cover to cover and took the mock tests included in the book. The score I received on them was the same score I received on the real exam!

Hey everyone -
34, from southern Indiana and going to Ivy Tech for an ASN. I never, ever wanted to be a nurse. Let's just say that life choices and a great big ole push from God has set me on this path. I truly feel like this is my calling, but the timing was just not right so many years ago.
Glad to be a part of this community for the last year. It has been a saving grace in a crazy world!!

I am originally from Germany, we now live in San Antonio,TX. I am 46, Army wife, 2 sons....one will be 22 next month and the little one is 8. I was an English major and changed towards nursing (I might go back though these classes are way too hard)

Hi! I'm 32, and live in North Durham. I just got my acceptance letter to Duke's ABSN program and start in August. I'm excited and scared to death!
My DH is a Brit and works in the Middle East for the US government. Actually, as we speak he's in Kuwait waiting for a plane to Iraq for ten days. Then he's coming home on the 11th of March and I'm very excited!
stpauligirl - I wondered if you were from Germany. I was in the AF and have lots of great memories of Ramstein! DH lived in Germany for seven years before we met, down in Friedburg and in Stuttgart.
needhelp - I was stationed at Altus AFB, OK and am well familiar with your area and OKC! I had a lot of fun while I was there.
I can't remember the poster's name - the 18 year old - YOU CAN DO IT. Remember - you'll have folks in your class who are old enough to be your mother who are ALSO wondering how they're going to fit in and are as worried as you are.
And to all of you who are tackling this with children - I SALUTE YOU. I have always had a deep admiration for anyone who decides to go back to school with kids. My dad did it when he got out of the military in the late seventies with three of us at home - SO YOU CAN DO THIS!!

I am glad that you enjoyed Germany. I was born near Bremen (North) and my family later moved to Braunschweig (still North). Even though English is my second language I found it easier to deal with than these crueling hard science classes. If things don't work out and I don't get into the nursing programs I'll go back and continue working on becoming an English teacher. At least here in America you can do it that way....nobody closes doors on you and it is truely the land of opportunities. Anyone can try anything at any age. God Bless America!

I'm from the D/FW area in Texas. I attend the Dallas County Community Colleges, but live in Tarrant County.
My mom is scared about infectious diseases, but also knows the chance of catching these diseases outside of healthcare are high, if not just as high.
(In fact she told my husband he couldn't move us out of the area until after my 2 years of school were over.) :roll (As if she had the say so)..
Anyway, good luck to you....follow your dream, and live your life for yourself, not your mother.

I am a 25 yr old wife, mom and student. I got my BA degree 3 years ago, and have been taking pre req's for the past year to get into an RN program. This is incredibly hard being I work full time and am taking classes full time. At first it was hard to get back into the swing of things, but now am LOVING every minute of it. I was BORN to be a nurse and am trying very hard to get into a few schools next fall. I currently am living in Springfield MO, but am moving to the New Orleans area in May when my husband graduates. I have applied at an accelerated RN program down there for the fall.....Now I am just waiting with fingers crossed and hands clasped in PRAYER....
