Something I've been thinking about..
I know the most typical ones are ICU, PACU, or going for an NP and working in fast track or something. That's what I've seen from ER RNs I know.
What other areas are worth looking into for someone with our background?

Probably a nursing home bed or Walmart! Just being funny. I really don't know. I would think maybe teaching?

I just left the ER for a Monday through Friday 8-5 (and no holidays, yay!) job as a marketer for home health. Staying PRN in the ER in case this isn't for me.
Congrats, and good luck!!! :)

I think its easy for an ER to choose something completely different because of burn-out, but then regret it as they are BORED.
Done that so many times, I have learned my lesson and always stay PRN in the ER.
I've done home health a few times, to see what the outside world looks like in daylight, and also done a stint on a cruise ship.
But the boredom soon kicks in when you no longer have professional challenges of the sort you find in resus, and an "emergency" is when the printer jams.
In ER again now and planning to stay until retirement!
Or insanity. Whichever arrives first : )

ER/Trauma RN in the Navy Nurse Corps :)
No, the question is after you want to move onto something else.
I met another ER nurse this past weekend who has moved into education as adjunct faculty. :) She keeps a PRN ER position just because it's an addiction, lol.
