  1. Don't quit, but do look for another job actively in your free time and find one you like. I work in a hospital that has high turnover, lots of new grads come here, get experience and bounce because they don't like this place but it's the only one that would hire them. They all left after finding new jobs, though and I would recommend the same.
  2. Something I've been thinking about.. I know the most typical ones are ICU, PACU, or going for an NP and working in fast track or something. That's what I've seen from ER RNs I know. What other areas are worth looking into for someone with our background?
  3. Food for thought...a few months ago I had a healthy 25 year old with no history come in for a headache...acting very dramatic about it, etc etc. Doc put in for a head CT and some morphine. After the morphine she was knocked out in her room, snoring and all, vitals holding up ok. One of the times I make rounds she's not snoring anymore - because she stopped breathing! Didn't make it. After that, I stopped being so dismissive.
  4. Hi, thank you, what are some good areas right outside AA to live in? So far I'm only aware of Ypsilanti and while it has decent pockets in it my concern would be good schools (which Ypsi doesn't have). Thanks again
  5. Hey, thank you. Though I prefer the Ann Arbor or greater Detroit area since that's where my wife is from, and what I'm familiar with, Lansing has definitely caught my eye for being another college town! How does it compare to AA? Do they have a similar vibe because of their big universities? How's the diversity there? Which hospitals were you referring to in Lansing? Thanks for your help, and I'm glad you like it there. I work with about a half dozen Michiganders in my ER and I tell them, "you're going the wrong way!"
  6. Hello allnurses I'm an ED RN in Chicago right now with about 18mo experience. In about 2 years I think I'll be looking to move to SE Michigan - my wife is from the Ann Arbor/Ypsi border and I would like to move around there (she is longing to return home and I love MI myself), hopefully on the A2 side of the border. My question is...renting in A2 looks more expensive than where I live in Chicago now. Would landing a job in U of M's ER with 2-3yr of experience be a good enough pay to afford Ann Arbor, since the job is in the same city? How does St. Joseph Mercy compare? What other cities/towns (anywhere between Ann Arbor and Detroit preferably closer to I94) would you recommend moving to, and what hospitals in those respective towns? So far I like Canton, Dearborn Hts, to live in based on my visits.
