Following on from a thread we appear to have hijacked regarding nursing many moons ago and how we remember things done. Have started this thead
Right what I remember when training and qualifying in the 1980's
Hiding when consultant came onto the ward
Eating breakfast in the toilet
Enough people on the ward to ensure all care was given and time to talk to patients
Bed pan rounds (didn't do the pans piled on trolley tho)
Pressure rounds (set trolley at set times checking patients pressure areas)
O2 on pressure sores
trial on using maggots on wounds
Tidy clean wards
Right anyone else :lol_hitti

Soap and water enemas:uhoh21:
bowel prep as an ng tube one end commode the other and water/ picolax running into the ng
Oxygen for pressure sores - we had just moved away from egg white
Anyone remember silastic foam bungs are they still around
We did the bedpan and commode rounds
Students jobs were to clean the sluice, bed pans (which were metal without this nice cardboard disposable) so we really did have to clean them before putting them in the automatic bedpan washer

hey, dont you know that the states dont have disposable bedpans, nor a sluice, all plastic bedpans charged to the patient used in the rooms and then washed in the patients own bathroom, and then thrown away on patient discharge.
american nurses are amazed when you tell them that we have cardboard urinals and bedpans and they dont understand how that works.
no poo eating machine in usa?
am shocked
manual handling, australian lift, 2 people lifting patients up the bed when really should use more people, although now you use the hoist.
managing to shut wards in winter and summer... now it is a struggle to find beds and staff to man them

glass bottles for IV fluid. To be fair, they were phased out just as I was starting in 1978, but I do remember them!
