When someone asks you what you do for a living, do you say "nurse" or "RN" or "LVN"?

I always say "I'm a nurse" and only today has anyone asked me "RN or LVN?" When I worked in the hospital it seemed nobody thought there was a difference and we are all just nurses, as we are, but in the community people seem more curious.

Most of my friends do not work in healthcare. When asked I say "nurse" (proudly, I might add ;) ) Sometimes I throw in that I work at an eye surgery center, but I usually wait until they ask. Then the refractive surgery (and other eyeball) questions come up occasionally.

I usually say "Registered Nurse"

One time at work, one of residents asked if I was an RN. I replied yes. I then said I also had Bachelors (I don't always, but im proud I survived 4 years). And he replied "Oh so you are an LPN"

I say hospice nurse now. When I worked in the hospital, I would say RN.

I say "RN". Sometimes I add that I work in a hospital. I don't talk to strangers on airplanes. Headphones go in immediately and I pretend I can't hear anything. :D

"I'm a nurse". If asked, I will clarify that I'm an RN. Occasionally, someone will ask 'Did you have to do four years of schooling?", but it usually seems to be more because they can't stand that much school.

"I'm a nurse" is what I say.

Honest to God true story....had been an RN for a whole whooping ONE day after being an LPN for 19 years. Got a very psychotic new resident in our LTC. Went in an introduced myself as a nurse. She squinted & stared for a bit & screeched "RN or LPN"?. I replied "RN". After more squinting & staring she replied, well I think you are a d***liar because you look like an LPN. Cracked my coworkers up.

I usually just tell people that I'm a nurse.

I've had patients ask me what kind of degree I have, but I think they're trying to make polite conversation. Oftentimes they work in healthcare or know someone who's a nurse. I have an ADN with a previous Bachelors and am very proud to share that! Working on my BSN now too!
