When money is low...

ok so i transferred from a junior college in ga to a 4 year university in virginia for nursing (gpa 3.6) :D. everything went okay as far as transfer goes now i'm in my last 2 years in nursing school.

well i did get fin aid but it isn't enough to cover everything. one of the girls in my dorm strips to pay for school. she said that she makes good money. i told her that i didn't want to strip and it was out of the question . well she told me that i could always become a waitress. didn't have to take off any clothes just flirt with people and serve drinks and they make good money also.

Can i become a waitress at the club without losing my dignity :saint: or having other people find out what i do. i really need the money for nursing school because it is expensive. also it is quick easy money. i need some advice before considering doing this.

My daughter got hired as an ER Tech with no prior medical experience. Once hired, the hospital signed a contract with her to pay for all of her schooling costs... including books and supplies.

She now attends school with me, working part-time.

I worked as a waitress for 4 years. 2 in a bar and 2 in a strip club. I got much more crap from guys in the regular bar. Of course you will not lose your dignity. Nor will you be treated like a piece of meat as another posted stated. you will be treated however you allow people to treat you. You also do not have to flirt with customers in order to make money. What you do have to do is be friendly, polite, and give good service. I never flirted with anyone and made plenty of money. We all have to define how far we are willing go for the almighty dollar. I was never willing to compromise my morals or principles. The guys in the strip clubs are much more interested in the girls who are stripping than the ones serving drinks. Be prepared to here some off-colored jokes, be prepared for comments like "you know your really pretty you should be up there, you could make a lot more money" etc. Handle it the same way you would handle unwanted attention from any man, say no thanks not for me and move on. The great thing about a strip club is they do not have assigned sections like in a resturaunt or bar. If a guy (or gal) is a jerk move onto another table and let someone else take care of them. It can be a tough environment and the work is certainly not easy, lots of running around, dealing with some pretty strong personalities etc. I have to admit my attitude towards people became a little jaded, but I think that anyone who spent 4 years of her life around drunk people would probably suffer the same fate. I do feel it gave me a huge lesson in assertiveness and I can handle my own on any floor against any co-worker, doc, family member etc. I learned some great communication skills and can diffuse tough situations pretty quickly. As far as people not finding out what you do, that I don't understand. I was never ashamed of my job it paid my bills and paid my for my sons operation. If people think lower of me for having worked in a strip club, well too bad for them.

If you made great money, why in the heck did you go into nursing?

Do what you want to do....if you are comfortable take your clothes off...

If you can be a waitress....be a waitress.....

If you can work in a hospital, and be paid what you need then do it....

I say go with whatever you are comfortable with, the most bang for the buck, and remember you still have school the job can't be your priority.

Fools are parted with their money...both men and drunks are fools that frequent strip clubs and bars. Their foolishness will be those girls' gain.

For the record and the "holy" ones, men will look at attractive girls and have evil thoughts in or out of a club....the girl might as well get something for it. I won't judge....and neither should you.

No one can be your conscious....do what you think is right!

Hmmm maybe for the security, benefits, flexibility a new and exciting opportunity? I made as much as a bartender as I make nursing now just comparing paychecks but that is like comparing apples to oranges. Loved bartending don't regret one second of it but there came a time to move on.

In my area which is pretty progressive techs only make just over $10 an hour and while I'm sure this was an excellent opportunity my tuition only added up to just over $1,000 a semester. A good waitress/bartender working part time should be able to make way more than tech wages + tuition reimbursement in just a month.

Well, I think you need to check into financial aid a bit more. I went through 5 years of college on grant money from the government. My income level qualified me and I had to only maintain a passing GPA in order to keep my funding. There is a lot of scholarship and grant money out there, you just have to know where to find it. You should get an appointment with your financial aid department to see if you qualify.

As for jobs, I too feel that you should try to get a CNA job at a hospital. I did this when I was in college and it really helped me get prepared for the future work environment.

The issue of what to do to make money is one that you are going to make for yourself. But as a nurse of 30 years, I strongly recommend that you try getting work in a hospital now. It will serve you well in the future after you graduate. Good Luck

You can't 'lose' your dignity. Strippers have just as much dignity as anyone else. ;) They may have different morals but who are we to judge. Remember, according to the main religious text (in America anyways) we were meant to be naked. ;)

In any case, there are plenty of jobs that pay well for minimal time. Bartending, being a waitress/server in a regular club. All kinds of things.

My response is general (and NOT specific to the OP's situation!) and is taking things off topic I suppose. Perhaps I should not even post it. But when comments like this are made: "They may have different morals but who are we to judge." - it always gets to me.

"They may have different morals but who are we to judge." So.....can we judge anything at all then?? I would say that we can not......After all each person/society just has different morals. Can we "judge" the terrorists who blew up the World Trade Centers? They were deeply committed individuals acting on very sincere beliefs. Their morals were different than mine, but who am I to judge? Okay...I realize I am using a VERY extreme example here, but....if we really follow and apply the reasoning of "They may have different morals but who are we to judge." - we can not judge anything at all then! Clearly there have to be some lines of morality.

The total inconsistency in this area of reasoning is quite "interesting" to me. The "we can't judge" folks frequently take a casual attitude toward things like, say, Mediaography, sexual choices, tax evasion, or mockery of religion...After all, who are we to judge. To each his own. BUT at the same time they frequently show a very fierce opposition to things like racism, sexism, self-righteousness, ecological destruction, or air pollution (especially by cigarette smoke!). So... it is okay to be judgmental against some things, but not others. Hmmm....

Okay... that's all before I am any more off topic.

The 'we can't judge' folks???

:D As compared to the 'we are the proper and right religion and only our judgment is right' folks???

The OP asked for advice NOT judgments...

this is my point exactly. you hit the nail on the head! there are problems on both "sides". those who say "we can't judge", are judging those who do make judgments. if we call someone else intolerant, we ourselves are being intolerant! there have to be some moral boundaries in life. the "we can't judge" folks clearly do make judgments about certain things! they are hypocrites. however, its the same on the "other side" too. the "we are the proper and right religion and only our judgment is right" folks have drifted into self-righteousness, often overlook their own flaws, and are sometimes guilty of the same sins that they accuse others of! they are hypocrites too!

the op asked for advice not judgments...

you are right. i have created a whole new subject. didn't really mean too.

my reply in blue. if we want to discuss more, pm might be better! :D

if you want to strip, then go for it. but don't think it's the only way you can pay for college.

i paid my way through college the first time as a server/hostess/grill cook at cracker barrel. i made more money there than i did at the fire dept, actually. it's hard work and it actually helped prepare me for nursing. difficult customers, standing on my feet, prioritizing needs, etc....

get a job at a restaurant as a hostess or server. places like chili's or applebee's that serve alcohol are always busy. you can make alot of tips off personality. :)

It's much easier to to get a loan.

In other threads, posters are stating that it will be tough to get a loan due to the economy. Are they wrong about that?

On another note, I know quite a few nursing students who work in strip clubs. Will they get their dignity back upon graduation and getting hired at a hospital or have they lost their dignity forever? Maybe someone can answer that for me.:typing
