You can't 'lose' your dignity. Strippers have just as much dignity as anyone else. They may have different morals but who are we to judge. Remember, according to the main religious text (in America anyways) we were meant to be naked.

In any case, there are plenty of jobs that pay well for minimal time. Bartending, being a waitress/server in a regular club. All kinds of things.

It's much easier to to get a loan.

There are plenty of places to work.

Most of the nursing students in my class had jobs, some even full-time.

Students needing money isn't an uncommon thing.

Do a little fact checking about how easy/how much money you will make compared to other student jobs and then decide if it is worth it.

WHat about a tech job at a hospital?

I was a waitress and bartender during nursing school. I didn't find anything wrong with it. It was even fun sometimes. The worst part was coming home smelling of food/booze/smoke. Like someone else said, what about a tech job at a hospital or nursing home. (Granted, I think I sometimes made more bartending than as a tech)

Yes you will lose your dignity, being a waitress in a strip club you are treated the same as the dancers. To anyone who posted that it was no biggie has obviously never worked in a place like that-women there are treated like meat waitress or dancer-PERIOD. Waitress or bartender in a bar/club is a different story but the original poster is talking about a strip club-two different places/atmospheres. To the original poster don't do it, it's not worth the money-keep your eye on the prize-Nursing.

In any case, you can't lose dignity. Dignity NEVER goes away. It's a common misconception in nursing that you take away someone's dignity or lose it.

Dignity - 1: the quality or state of being worthy, honored, or esteemed

Nothing you can do can take away someones worth. Not even judging them. Not even stripping. :) You CAN treat someone in an undignified manner but that doesn't take away their dignity. Nor does it take away yours, it just reflects poorly.

Belief that you can lose dignity by an action or station in life or even by who you are is the basis of every 'ism' in existence.

The OP should do what she is comfortable doing.

I was a waitress for many years and have never felt an issue with dignity. It put money in the bank and they were quite flexible with my hours going through nursing school. You make Great money waiting tables, I happened to work in a family restraunt. I miss it, it was fun, I did not want to take out a ton of money in loans. Oh, also I am an overweight single mother (43) I never flirted for tip's, I was just myself with a great sense of humor and commitment to taking care of my customers. They all tipped very well.

Dignity is how you feel about yourself. Women that willfully work in professions geared towards separating men from their money have self-respect. Many of them will think the men are the ones with the problems (since they have to pay for it - especially when it is nothing but looking). I find it disturbing how someone can judge another person's choices because they can't understand how some women are comfortable being sexual women without feeling a need to hide it or wear clothes (all the time). Women are human, we are sexual beings, and we were all born naked. The only dignity that you could lose is to do something you're ashamed of. If you're not ashamed of being an attractive woman, then you won't lose dignity for being one.

But, like other posters have mentioned. There are other jobs out there than being a stripper or bartender in a strip club. Some will also pay well. Even retail sales (in a shop that sells stuff you like to buy) can pay okay money, and give you discounts or bonuses in trade. Waitresses have the potential to make a lot of money simply ensuring that their customers are "fat and happy".

You should consider how much money you want or need. Know how much you're getting in financial aid, and being sure not to put yourself into too much debt (you will have to pay it all back). If your time permits, getting a job while in school will lessen your burden later. But, additional loans may be a better option if you can't budget your time well enough to get good grades.

My daughter got hired as an ER Tech with no prior medical experience. Once hired, the hospital signed a contract with her to pay for all of her schooling costs... including books and supplies.

She now attends school with me, working part-time.
