When you graduate what part of nursing are you going into?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I personally would love to be a correctional nurse:smokin:.Not as much pressure and BS. I feel comfortable in that setting, especially being a former correctional officer.I knew there was no way I could work in a traditional hospital setting. So what field of nursing is calling you?:nurse:

Specializes in SNU/SNF/MedSurg, SPCU Ortho/Neuro/Spine.

I am pretty set on child/adolescent psych, but I wont know for sure till after clinical rotations. I think labor and delivery would be awesome, but I know I'd just cry every time the baby comes out.

most interested in the ER. Not at all interested in ob/peds

Specializes in no specialty! (have to graduate first!).

I am going to spend a year or so in Med/Surg and then I want to go into an ICU or ER. I'm an adrenalin junkie. I like do or die moments. I like the "high" I get from it. My sister is a runner and she calls running her "cocaine." I've been in several situations where I've been able to feel that rush and I love it. In critical care, not only will I get the feeling that I love but I will also help save peoples lives. I truly can't wait.

Now if it wasn't for those darn wait lists!!! :chuckle

Specializes in Telemetry and Psych.

Love this posting! Thank you for putting this up!

I find it interesting to see where everyone would like to get into. I have been working in the medical field for years as either a CNA, Unit Secretary, ER tech, and social service (with the developmentally disabled).

I currently work as a senior operations manager for a non profit company and oversee approximately 19 group homes in the valley of phoenix.

I have always wanted to be a nurse and have 2 sisters who currently are. One works in pediatric psych and the other in adult psych. They both love their jobs.

I too have considered becoming a psych nurse but really have my eyes on either ER, ICU, or the cardiac unit. I currently work in a very stressful environment and thrive on it. I enjoy the day to day chaos..i know call me crazy! But who know, like a previous fellow allnurses poster.....it may change after going through clinicals....

Honestly, I don't have a clue.

I'm just trying to make it through bloody pre-reqs and trying not to think too far ahead of myself. But I've purposely been trying to keep an open mind about it, because I want to be able to enjoy clinicals without any pre-conceived notions getting in the way.

My mom works ER/trauma, and I really don't think I could do her job. Maybe with a few years of solid med-surg under my belt I'd consider it, but until then, I wouldn't personally be comfortable with it. That's about the only pre-conception I've got, and that's purely based on what I've seen and heard from growing up in a house with two nurses.

Specializes in Tele, CVIU.

It's between Critical Care and Obstetrics/Gynecology as an RN and as a Nurse Practitioner, I'm leaning towards Obstetrics/Gynecology. Of course this could all change once I get to my clinicals. I would also like to work per diem in a nursing home because I love working with the elderly.:redbeathe

Specializes in OR Pre-op, Post-op.

I would like to stay in the OR...Just a bit further away from the mayo tray!

My goal is to work in l&d. I have wanted to work in that area for quite a while now, and after I had me daughter, it inspired me even more. I can't wait!

My hope is to just be able to get a job! Hehe. However, since most places want a year of experience I think I'll just take what comes avalable to get that year. Med/surg for a year of general exp will be the most likely choice. Now, once I can choose, my interests lie in l&d, postpartum care & peds.

I want to go straight into ICU so I can become a CRNA.

I'd like to do Med/Surg actually, but I'm still in prereqs so I'm not locking myself down to anything. My daughter had some AWESOME nurses when she had her appendectomy (she was 7). They're who inspired me to be a nurse. (I started prereqs the next semester!) All the nurses we came into contact with were friendly, confident, and professional. They earned my respect and admiration.
