When you graduate what part of nursing are you going into?

I personally would love to be a correctional nurse:smokin:.Not as much pressure and BS. I feel comfortable in that setting, especially being a former correctional officer.I knew there was no way I could work in a traditional hospital setting. So what field of nursing is calling you?:nurse:

Specializes in Cardiology, LTC, SANE.

I want to hop around many specialties, including ER/ICU/OR before I go to graduate school. (I want to keep my options open before clinicals.) I eventually want to become a nurse anesthetist. I shadowed a nurse anesthetist for my 40 hour senior project and through a Cleveland Clinic internship program and I plan on shadowing them more in the future-just so I make sure this is what I really want to do. :redbeathe

I don't know- I eventually want to volunteer with Doctors Without Borders, but I'm not sure I'd be ok with being apart from my soon to be DH for the length of the commitment. We could try to go together once he's a nurse too, but by the time we both have the experience the organization requires...I think I'll be wanting to have a baby.

But we'll see- I'm still in prerequisites.

I don't know yet, but I doubt it will be a specialty right off the bat. I want to do traveling nursing for a few months to put towards a new carwhen I graduate- so I presume med/surg is where 1 would go if the want experiemce to be able to work in most hospitals across the nation and get hired quickly?

I am also considering applying at a VA hospital to enjoy some of those good benefits and bonuses- so I will be looking at the hiring requirements and then choosing where I need to be.

I'm thinking about ER. I like new things everyday, so that sounds fun. However my mother was an ER nurse for many years and a patient hurt her bad. She now had a fusion, plate and screws, and an intrathecal pain pump pumping meds for her neck. :( This worries me.

LOL I don't even know all the different areas of nursing. I mean, I'm not even aware of the different populations of patients and stuff.

Specializes in TCU.

I want to join Doctor's without Borders also:loveya:. I plan on working with Americorp when I am done with school, just to prepare myself for what may be in store with DWB.

From what I have heard, the stints for DWB are only about 3 months at a time.

CHEERS!

Specializes in 1 day correctional and military nursing.
