When you begin your clinicals.....

will you have additional classes to take? (science or classes for associates degree or classes for BSN?)
I think I have it worked out where I will just have the clinicals/lecture.
Just wondering what everyone will have on their plate while doing clinicals (school related, not personal)

at our school you have to have all your sciences math and english out of the way. There are a few classes you will need to finish the ADN degree not related to nursing classes...i.e political science communication etc... but because we have to wait a whole semester before applying after finishing our pre reqs most people will have those done before starting classes.

I have all mine doen including the BSN transfer courses except for statistics (i'll take that next summer or right after ADN graduation). I don't recommend taking many extra classes with the nursing classes because you will be very busy.

Our nursing program requires full-time enrollment to stay in the program. The nursing courses are usually 7-9 cr hrs for the semester, but 12 cr hrs is considered full-time....so even if you have gotten all your pre-req's out of the way, you still must pick up an extra course or two.

Most students take something easy online, or opt for classes like golf, tae bo, tennis, aerobics, etc. There are self-studies like directed reading courses related to nursing, pharmacology, current events. Most of these classes count for 1-2 cr hrs and are considered an easy A.

Since I am such a hardcore student (haha), I tortured myself by taking all my A&P, Micro, Humanities, and Speech right along with Nursing.

If I attempt and get a Fall admission, then yes I'll have a few yet to take (I could work most of them into summers). If I either don't get the Fall admission or choose to wait until Spring, I'll get my summers mostly off.

My local community college says it is recommended that you finish all prereqs prior to admittance to clinicals, but doesn't specifically demand that you do so. However, you'll never make it into the program if you don't have them done as you get points for each prereq (in addition to GPA, in-county residency, etc.), so everyone gets them out of the way beforehand.

Ours is the same way. Everyone says get them out of the way first, but only one class doesnt count as points.

When I start my clinicals I will only be taking the lecture and lab associated with the clinical. I am already finished with my pre-reqs and my co-requisite courses. I am waiting on acceptance into an ADN program. Currently I am working on one of two BSN pre-reqs I need for the RN-BSN bridge so I will be in the same boat when I apply to that program as well.

That is my plan of action exactly. Try to get in, but if I dont, get some BSN pre-requisites out of the way. I will keep doing that and keep applying till I do get in.

I will be finished with all my pre-req's before starting clinicals. I think NUR classes will be hard enough alone. Props to all those who can do their co-req's at the same time....I don't know how you do it!!

I will just have my clinicals and lectures too, except for a pharmacology class (but I can't take until I am in the nursing program). It feels good to know I will have everything else out of the way. If I do decide to pick up extra classes, I can start taking classes to apply when I go from my ASN to my BSN.
