Nursing is a profession that often involves long lonely night shifts in eerie hospital wards. It's a perfect breeding ground for ghost stories. These stories often involve sightings of apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained events that are said to have taken place in hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare settings. Some of these stories are believed to be based on true events, while others are purely fictional. Regardless, they continue to captivate and intrigue both nurses and non-nurses alike - providing a spooky glimpse into the world of healthcare after dark.
I know you have seen and heard freaky things. Share your nursing ghost stories...
Okay, I love Halloween, its just around the corner ya know. I think this is bump worthy!I have one...
My husband's cousin and her family moved into a new home. Her, her husband, and their 2 y/o daughter. She was always talking to and playing with someone. Her grandpa, who babysat her often and would stay the night there began telling his wife, daughter, and son-in-law that he would not stay there ever again, that he would have to babysit at his house. You have to picture this guy-sweet as a teddy bear, but 6'2", 300lbs., biker, covered with tattoos-never took any crap, and not scared of anything.
We all would make fun of him when he talked about seeing a little girl ghost. He said he only saw her once, but felt her, and heard her there all of the time. He also noticed how his granddaughter was always playing with this little girl.
Well, he was terrified and refused to go into the house anymore, whenever he talked about it he would appear visably shaken. We all laughed and continued to tease him.
Well one night he ended up babysitting. He agreed to meet his daughter at the house because she was getting off work late. So there they were at the house, just him and his grandaughter, and the mom got tied up at work.
When she arrived home 30 min later she found her dad dead on the floor. Of coorifice she called 9-1-1 right away (which his wife was running sqaud that night and I was working in the hospital that they brought him to.
Well, we have never seen anything like it in our whole lives! Although the autopsy ruled his official cause of death was due to a massive MI, if you could have seen the look on his face, eyes wide as saucers, mouth gaped open-sheer terror!! His wife wouldn't even have an open casket.
We all know that he was really scared to death.
We never went back into that house, they had movers pack it up-none of us ever wanted to see what he saw there.
I think I have ready every page on this particular thread and for some reason, this one messes with me the most!
This non-ghost story is from pre DRG when patients could stay in the hospital for a much longer time.
Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman lived near the hospital in an elegant downtown home. They were devout Lutherans and went daily to the nearby church to pray. Although Mrs. Hoffman was in the final stages of cancer, her smile was always beatific. As her liver functions deteriorated, she slipped into a coma that lasted two weeks.
The day before she died, my coworker Jana cared for her on the 7 to 3 shift. She said that after bathing and turning her, Mrs. Hoffman opened her eyes and smiled, as if she recognized a friend. Jana asked, "Who are you looking at, Mrs. Hoffman?"
She smiled broadly and replied, "Jesus . . .He is standing behind you."
Jana told me the story, because I was Mrs. Hoffman's evening nurse. She passed away during change of shift.

I"ve nevser seen a ghost....but i do often see things out of the corner of my eye or floating dots. Which could be easily explained as tiredness/fatigue. i work 3rd shift. i work home health. i often see these dots and hear footsteps coming down the stairs at my pt"s home....it's creepy at times. but i'm never really scared there.
I had a close friend of the family die 2 yrs ago from a massive MI, very unexpected. I had seen him earlier at church and he had just celebrated his granddaughters first birthday. he went home that evening and went to bed. He wore a sleep anea mask(C-PAP) at nite. His wife stayed up in the living room. Then she heard him yell out her name. She ran in there and he was already gone. She callled 911 and her daughter who is a nurse who lived very close. They performed cpr til paramedics arrived but with no success. He had already gone to me with God.
This was probably the closest person to me that died that I hurt me so much....i had lost grandfathers before i was born, a few cousins i seen a few times a yr. But he was very close to me. He was my brothers father i law but i felt like he was an uncle to me or even a father in law....neways.....i was severly hurt and saddened by his death. But i was sure he was with God and so was his family.....but we were still very sad.
Awhile after his death i dreamed of him. He was smiling, very happy. He climbed down a ladder that was attached to our church. He said he had came down from heaven. He didnt say much. I dont remember his lips moving but i remember that he was implying that he wanted all his family and mine also to climb that ladder to him someday.
I was so happy to see him i about cried when i woke up. it was wonderful. i havent mentioned this to our family but i think i should....its so sad to even bring up his name sometimes. but i think i should mention it...maybe it could bring peace to others. Iknow i've felt a lot better since then.
I have dreamed of others in our family after their passing and so has one of my cousins,,,its reassuring that we will see our loved ones again someday!!!:redbeathe:loveya:
I was taking care of an old nun one night who had been very close to death. She was very alert and kept telling me that i needed to find beds for all the sisters who were saying the rosary around her room. Needless to say, there was no one in the room but her and myself. She insisted they were all the way around the ceiling and they were too loud and would not let her sleep. The same pt. a few nights before asked me what that bright light was next to me. I worked the night shift and it was dark in the room. I said "where is the bright light?" and she said "you cant see that, can you?" I said "no, but i believe you do." She died very peacefully several nights later.
Hi Not Now,
Never thought of it,...but that logic, kind of make sense. I'll try to remember it next time I see a ghosty figure...
just last night at work, I walked past a tv, it turned itself on....I walked past it again, it shut itself off!! I think it must be my "electric" personality!!!! LOL!!!!

Kind of funny they were saying the rosary to loud.
