Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!
I have a good friend named Cricket.
That's one of my nicknames! Along with Needle...
I had 2 patients that were sisters and though I don't think the names were weird, they were different: Autumn and Summer. Their sister was Winter. No kidding.
Thats like a couple of teachers I knew
First names North and South last name Storms
Have any of y'all ever seen the movie/read the book 'Where the Heart Is' ? Character in the movie/book named her kids after food....brownie, praline, cherry, and I forget the last one. Scary how close to reality that actually is.
The last one was Baby Ruth. (One of my favorite books/movies.)
Makavelli and Dartanyun
My bil wanted to name his son Dartanyun (actually Dartagnan in French) but my sis was afraid people would shorten it to Dart so they agreed on Tanyan.
had a pretermer tell me she was going to name a boy Achilles (she didn't know the gender)
had a patient whose baby's middle name was Nevaeh- pronouncedNa-Vay-Ah. (Heaven spelled backwards.)
this was actually the 70th most popular girls name in 2005. 4, 457 baby girls were named Nevaeh in 2005. this is per the social security adminstration website
I have a great aunt named Poutine
is she from Quebec?
can't say that sounds appetizing to me - I've never been a big fan of poutine (I'm from Canada) although I have friends who claim that it's the best remedy for a hangover (I've always had good success with the rapid ingestion of Harvey's cheeseburgers - yum - with an ENO chaser........)
You gotta love the old names people used to be called, usually with religious themes (the french-canadians anyway). My grandmother was such a religious fanatic that 3 of her daughters had Marie (mary) in their names. Two of my great-grandfathers were named Magloire and Pamphille. I used to work with an Archange (arch angel). I used to care for a Ressurecion.
yup - my dad is one of 9 french-canadians and the 6 boys have "Joseph" as one of their middle-names and the 3 girls have "Marie"............
Bob Blaughblaugh ........ naw just kidding, I mean just mumbling.
Arvid was here
PS .... Please no gawfaws about my weid name, childhood was hell enough.
My youngest brother went to school with brothers named Storm and Steel... their last name was Rocket
Let me guess, did they happen to have a sister named Skye?
The "silliest" (at least to me) name I've seen is "Candy Apple." This is fairly recent so it stands out in my memory.
I have a friend whose nephew's name is Luke Skywalker.
My husband is from India, and we know several Indian immigrants who have had babies in the U.S. I'm sure they are nice names in India . . .
Aaryan
Periyah
Shiva or Siva
Ratnah
Bhoomi or Bhooma
Gungun
Ganga
Kunti
Wish I could think of the others right now. Some of them are just not so great American names.
My grandfather's grandparents had so many kids they ran out of names. Each one had ABC initials. The last one was named Alpha Beta Clark. My grandma found it in her geneology records so we know it's true. My uncle's name, true to tradition, is Aric Bane Clark. Lovely middle name, eh? My dad's name is Allen Bedford. Bedford means "across the bed."
I know someone who named their daughter Luthien after the Lord of the Rings movie. Another one named her daughter Aylah after the Clan of the Cave Bear books.
I went to school with three sisters named Faith, Hope, and Charity. Hope passed away and Charity did NOT live up to her name at all.
