Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!
I have a contribution:
Ah Viance
Pronounced like the old Avon perfume Aviance. (showing my age here ... teen mom had no first hand knowledge of the perfume!)
One of the most unusual names I heard during my OB days was "Tequilla Dawn". Also a "Justyn Thyme" and 3 "Ashley Nicoles" in 1 week!
When I did a rotation in the NICU, a woman named her twins Atari (boy) and Amari (girl).
My favorites..Toiletta, guess where she was born, and twins named LaDonna and LaDenise- the nurses who took care of them Donna and Denise of course!
my friend's elementary gym teacher's name was Harry Balls.
I went to school with Girlie, Margarita, Hennessy, and Boy George.
We had a set of twins in our NICU named Pebbles and BamBam
When I was a CNA at the local hospital we had a couple who named their baby Auburn. They both were graduates of Auburn University and lived in Auburn. I know that kid enjoys game season with everyone having your name posted on their cars or clothes.
A couple I knew a while ago named their children Tequilla Jade (girl) and Jazz (boy).
A girl in my hometown was named Shady Grove.
And another set of friends named their son Hamish.
Go figure. Annjeh
This made me think of my elementary school teacher. Her name was Mrs. Roach. I remember many a day kids laughing about that. One kid even bought her a can of Raid bug spray as a Christmas gift.
I know a woman who named all her kids after cars: Mercedes, Lexxus (spelled that way), Chevy, and Kia.
I work in a hospital were the parents named their son, King Arthur. King as the first name and Arthur as the middle name. Dad said the next child would be Prince (or Princess) Arthur. Yes, even if it's a girl.

Winnie should meet the kid I know of who was given the middle name of "Tigger."
I'm not sure why parents can't give their kids normal names and then nickname them anything they wish. I have a friend whose grandchildren all have names like "Toots." However, none of those names are on their birth certificates; they have names like Lorena and James. Nicknames can be discarded and/or lived down.
