What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

Too many weird names to remember...........there have been several Harley Davidsons, Penny Candy, Memphis, Summer Storm.......I wish I could remember them all. Poor things. Mostly teenagers trying to shock people I suspect.

Back in my hometown, here in the U.S., there was a man named Donald Duck. You guessed it: he and his wife had three sons and a daughter. The boys' names were Huey, Duey, and Luey. And the girl's name was Daffy. Obviously, the man didn't mind his name but I have to wonder about his wife. She either didn't mind the names or didn't have the courage or guts to say "NO!"

My aunt whose name was Mary married a Charles Lamb. When their baby girl was born, there was a big write-up in the paper that Mary had a little lamb. I personally thought that was cute. But not the names of the Ducks!

My oldest daughter is Miranda, we too wanted something that was not overly common, but not hard to pronounce/spell, and to make sure there were not five girls with the same name in her class. We named our second daughter Mikayla and now we're trying to come up with a third M name because I"m 22 weeks pregnant with my third girl. Any suggestions?

Besides probably dozens of Marys, there's Marimae, Maude, Margery, Marjorie, Maybelle, Marcy, Marlys, Marley, Mildred, Myldred, Margene, Melinda, Marcia, Mavis, Marilyn, Marlene, Marlena, and Margaret--all people I met in school at one time or another. Some were students and some were teachers. Interesting that I could only think of one that started "Mi" like your other daughters. These names would all be from the first half of the 20th century.

my hubby does social security disability and he swears that he personally has seen people named lemonjello and orangejello (pronounced le-mohngello and or-ahngello). i don't know.

urban myth dennie. i have heard that one a million times.:D

not a myth. my mother in law taught elementary special ed (non educable) and she had the lemonjello and orangejello twins back about 15 years ago. the mother ate boocoos of jello while pregnant. being a special ed teacher, she has seen many very strange names!! (sure they arent too different than we see in the nicu...considering that is where many of them originate!!)

I knew two girls who were named Puket and Tasmania after 2 islands. We called the first Pookey and the second Tas. The name Pookey always reminded me of the teddy bear that Garfield has in the comic strip.

I work with a Dr. Vennum...he does our anes.!!!

I heard a mom call her daughter Malaria the other day. Eek!

Amen, give me a good old-fashioned name, with in reason. Nowadays, it won't be very common either. With all the made up names people are using.

you are so right - my boys are named "John" (9 yrs old) and "Michael" (7 yrs old) and they have never had anyone else with those names in:

1) their class (inlcuding pre-school and they are going into 4th and 2nd grade)

2) their baseball teams (been playing for 3 years)

3) their soccer teams (been playing for 3 years) or

4) their hockey teams (been playing for 4 years)

we are always correcting people who call our oldest "Jonathan" (like they couldn't imagine someone would possibly name their child something as old-fashioned as plain old "John"!)

At least people didnt name their kids Shigella or Amoebiasis lol:-)

I thought the weird names the babies were given only happened in my hospital. I have had 2 weird name experiences. 1) a mother named her daughter lady parts -pronouced Va Gina and 2) Areola-the Dr tried to talk the pt out of naming the poor child this, but the mother named her that anyway.:lol2:

I have actually come across the name lady parts myself, she was a really sweet Phillipino lady.
