What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I almost ended up Timber Wolff, Winter Wolff, or Summer Wolff. My dad even joked with my mom about naming me Were. I would have KILLED them! LOL. As it turns out, I got named after Melanie, the 70's singer. So now whenver I hear, "Brand New Key", I smile. It was a close race between Carly (for Carly Simon) and Melanie. Unfortunately, it's VERY easy to make fun of "Melanie".....Smelly Melly, Melonhead, Watermelon, Melonball, etc.

I went to school with a girl that had the name "Ana". Not bad until we all learned her full name...Anal. She was from Iran, India, or a country in that area and that was her real name. She obviously shortened it to Ana.

I also knew a Marsha....and her last name was Mellow. And then there were the sisters, Chastity and Charity (they came from a really religious family).

I overheard some parents talking in the hospital about naming their twins "Ace" and "Deuce"...I am hoping it was a joke.

We have picked out names for both a boy and a girl...someday. Brody Alexander (his initials will spell out "BAM") and Brynn Michele. The other two kids are named Bradley and Breanne, so in keeping with the "Br" theme.....

My husband is the first one to break the chain in his family. The men are named William Clyde, then the next is Clyde William, and then William Clyde, etc. My father-in-law is William Clyde, so you guess what my hubbie was almost named!!! They ended up breaking tradition and named him William Henry. It's a nice enough name, BUT what a big hassle, having the same name as your father....grrrrr!! We have to clean up our credit report frequently because the two become intermingled.

Oh, I was reading over some flyers at the hospitals about seminars that were being given. One was by a Dr. Skankey and another a Dr. Muff. I laughed and said the two should get married...it would be the Skankey-Muff wedding....ROFL!!!!!!

Melanie = )

the current attorney general in Michigan is named Mike Cox - during election time, it was hard to keep a straight face when the issue of voting for a new attorney general came up because he (Mike Cox) ran against a guy named (no joke) Gary Peters..............

:coollook:

I worked OB for 9 years and heard some pretty wacky names:

Justin Tyme (Just in time)

Tequella Sunrise

Merry Christmas (first and last name)

One week we had 3 moms name each daughter "Ashley Nicole", after 2 famous soap stars on "The Young and the Restless".

This isn't a baby name, but my son's best friend's mom's first name is Candy, which is a nice name, but their last name is Bandy - Candy Bandy.

When I was doing my maternity practicum someone named their baby girl phayden, sounds like jayden but with a ph sound at the front. My uncle wanted to name their boy Sterling and have the middle name Silver... how mean,, but they named his wyatt instead....

Balthazar!!

In the 1940's we had a mayor named Harry Baals. There is still a bridge in town with his name on it.

Just thought of two more.

When I was a fairly new grad we had a male candy striper named Rhett Butler. He was a scrawny kid who didn't look anything like the original. Poor guy, I bet he took a lot of ribbing.

When MASH was so popular we got a new doctor in town named Frank Burn. The first time they paged him overhead the entire hospital stopped and did a double take. Needless to say, he didn't like the comparison. Can't say I blame him.

Came across this one doing my clinical rotations today: Kenyoungten. I don't know!!!

Woops!! I almost forgot...

I work peds and was passing around nurses notes and saw the little "M" next to the name of a newborn. His name was Joi (I'm thinking the name is pronounced Joy). I asked the other nurse if these people named this poor baby boy "joy".

Oh no:uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: The dad's nickname is Joey.....and they didn't know how to spell it:confused:   .

I've got a couple for you ....

Formica Dinette and Cutlass Sierra

No kidding, may have been more info than we needed.
