  1. Think about the negative feedback mechanism and homeostasis. If they are constantly flipping the thermostat up and down, their bodies may not have the ability to regulate and it ruins their balance. With the elderly this is even more the case. They tend to be more cold natured anyway because physiologically their skin is thinner and they lose heat a lot faster. Sort of the same with babies.
  2. Wow. This must be contagious. I now have a year of experience in ICU and just recently changed hospitals. I have had 7 preceptors all who tell you how you should be doing things. This has been so frustrating. Although I am finally on my own, I feel so detached. It's really hard to find team players. I find myself helping out all the time and favors are not returned. When experiences start out on a bad note, it makes it really hard to feel as though you belong. We are able to transfer after 6 months so I will play it by ear.
  3. If you factor in shift-diff, you could make that easily.
  4. Hi. Some long-term care facilities start out with 18/hr.
  5. Hi. I am presently in the program. The courses are not that bad. Nursing courses incorporate a lot of writing. Do you need prereqs?
  6. Happy New Year!! Congrats to both of you!!!!:balloons::balloons::balloons:
  7. I did Kaplan which I thought was helpful. Some hospitals pay you back for the course once you pass. I also used the Mosby's study cards. I thought they were very convenient and helpful.
  8. I worked during the program. It is difficult but doable. You do what you have to do if necessary. If you are able to go through without the stress of working, it is certainly a lot easier. I also still had to take A&PI and II and Micro. It depends on the person, I think.
  9. I just recently graduated from the program this May. Took boards on June 19th and now I am a RN. The program is very intense. They made several changes during the 2 years I was there, and they were for the better. They have worked many of the kinks out. As far as clinicals, I am not sure how they will schedule them. In our last semester, we had 7 weeks of lecture and had to take the final exam and pass before being allowed to go to clinicals. I don't know if this will be the same for you. You will have clinicals in your fundamentals course which I do believe is first semester. Just stay organized and read your notes and text everyday. You will do just fine. Also get an NCLEX practice question book and find questions to answer that go along with the units they are covering. If you ever have any specific questions, just send me a PM.
  10. Have you been accepted to the program?
  11. Sounds like we will be hearing soon that all of you passed. Prepare for the celebration!
  12. Congratulations to you on a job well done! :balloons:
