Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!
Those are right up there with Latrina.
I suppose Turkeesha is lucky she didn't end up being Stuffinga.
Honestly, the things people do to their kids . . .
OMG!! This has been a great post!!! My only names that gave me pause were:
#1 Lyrica... I explained to the 16 year old that it was a medicine for fibromyalgia, but she still liked it.
#2 Thumbellina... hand of God... I had to call and make a newborn appointment for Thumbellina and reply to "How do you spell that?" without laughing!
Oh, and my co-worker had an Abcd (abs-id-dee)
I had a family name their boy, "Eosin", pronounced E-oh-sin, short for eosinophil. The father is a resident doctor and the mother is a medical lab tech. Go figure~
My husband and I are both nurses and always said we'd name our kiddo Guaiac... all non medical people are like "oh, that's different, I like it!" We just laugh!
Reader's Digest had a story about a microbiologist discussing in a humorous way all the bacteria in our environment. Near the end it talked about his family. His son was named "Escherichia." That's just discusting, naming your kid after a deadly colon bacteria.
i saw a story on odd celebrity baby names just yesterday...
jermaine jackson has a child (not sure if it's a girl or boy) named
[color=yellowgreen]jermajesty
i mean, seriously?

If it weren't for the medicine, I would almost kind of like that name!
Another med I could see as a baby name? Januvia.
I had a patient name her child "Lesbiana." I then had a patient named, "Psyche"-pronounced Sa-shay. I swear I learn something new everyday.
