What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I had my daughter in the 70's and named her Misty Dawn , what was I thinking? My daughter who is a school diagnostician has asked my why I didn't give her a "professional name" like Elizabeth etc...She tells everyone her parents were "flower children." At least it wasn't placenta...LOL...Sheila, RN, BSN ...L&D

Shi'Thead....How long will it take a kindergarten kid to realize his name spells **** head? Sheila C. That was @ 8 or 10 years ago when I had a Mom who was naming her son this. Sheila C

I worked for an insurance company and we had a claim come through for a "Female Smith". We called and asked the mother what the name of her child was and she asked what we had on the form. We spelled it out and she said "Yes, that's right.". She pronounced it "Fem-all-lee" LOL!!

With every Neveah I've come across, the name was pronounced, "Nah--VEY--ah" or Neh--VEY--ah." There have been quite a few of them on our postpartum and NICU units, including several sets of twins called Heaven and Neveah. Many moms realize that the name isn't original (maybe because you see the name all over the place now), but there are still a few who think they made it up.

Neveah isn't a bad name. Heaven knows :D , you could do a whole lot worse (and many have). It's just that I think the name is going to be the Jennifer of this generation with four out of fifteen girls in a classroom looking up when the teacher calls out, "Neveah."

Too funny b/c DH and I were just discussing the name Naveah as our oldest sat making out his Valentine's for school. He has two girls in his class named Naveah AND a boy named Alec Naveah. Now, I just think that is incredibly mean; as you mentioned, it's going to be akin to having named the boy Jennifer!

Oh, yeah, can't forget about the woman I went to nursing school with who wouldn't tell anyone what she was naming her baby girl. Well, I wouldn't have told anyone I was planning to name my February baby Harvest either.

The strangest name I've seen in the CICU (peds) is "De-a." No, it's not pronounced (DAE uh) or (DEE uh). It's pronounced (dee DASH uh). Yes my friends, the dash is pronounced as part of the name. Pronouncing punctuation should only occur when sending a telegram (stop). This makes me wonder if we'll start to see children named : powel and Tom -al (Colin Powell and Tom Daschle). Who knows, it could be a trend.

LOL this thread is soo funny. The strangest name, or in fact the scariest name I've come across with is "Exodus." She was a teenage mother who name her daughter and thought that the name just SOUNDED cool! how scary is that?
