What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

Specializes in L&D.

Oh my, my, my...I could list so many!!! Probably, the most recent was Dirtbike Susie and Shithead:confused:. Yep! That's right...but you say it like Shi-thead. Also...

-Breech

-Kleenex Tissueta:chuckle

-Damya (Dam ya)

-Mymiracle:heartbeat

-Neveah (Heaven spelled backwards...I have no idea how to say it!)

I'm sure I'm leaving off a host of apostrophes, dashes, and other ridiculous punctuation!

Years ago somebody named the elderly lady I took care of. Her name was Molester. Pronounced MO-lester.

Saw one today named "Telly". In his 50s, so not Sesame Street's fault.

Well I have said it more than once.......HUkd on Foiks Wurkd for Me.........

sometimes it isn't so much the name as the spelling. Then the parents get offended when you have to ask them what it is they named the baby because you can't quite get Michael out of Mykale ..........Or even better yet when they select a name and then have to have you show them how to spell. Be sure and write in on at least one piece of paper for them so they will have somethign to work off of thill the birth certificate comes in the mail.:chuckle

I found my childs name in the Bible, my daughter's name is Michaela (ma-kay-la), it doesn't sound like its spelled. But sometimes the spelling of a name reflects the beauty of the name as well.

I work with people who have spouses who are teachers. Here are a few names of children they have had in class. Shithead, twins Syphyllis and Gonorrhea. Another friends daughter's college roommate was Raspberry and her sister's name was Snowflake.

I had a nurse that help deliver my baby and her name was dorcus

Just the other day, I was watching Seven Brides for Seven Brothers on AMC, and Julie Newmar's character was named Dorcus. Definitely old-fashioned.

Saw a arrest pic yesterday, first name, Primavera. Also came across a Urethra. Parents heard in in the delivery room & thought it was lovely.

omg that is so funny about having to page over head. I'm an operator at my local hospital and I am constantly paging names overhead. I've had some really weird names, but the most memorable for me was Archangel. Yup. someone wanted me to page Archangel. i refused to page it. (well i had an excuse because they didn't know the last name). but still...who names their kid archangel? weird...

i also volunteered on maternity for a while, and while i was folding clothes, i overheard one of the nurses saying that a woman wanted to be "original" and name her baby girl Nevaeh, which is heaven backwards. the nurse joked about how she's had several mom's "make up that name"...so it's not so original afterall...

Her daugher with Lenny Kravitz is named Zoe. What a change here! That said, it sounds Hawaiian.

I think "Nevaeh" is kind of pretty. It's usually pronounced na-vi-ah.

A baby was recently born at my hospital and named Angel Nevaeh. I found out the baby's name when I saw her obituary 3 days later. Without going into too many details, she was not expected to live as long as she did.

With every Neveah I've come across, the name was pronounced, "Nah--VEY--ah" or Neh--VEY--ah." There have been quite a few of them on our postpartum and NICU units, including several sets of twins called Heaven and Neveah. Many moms realize that the name isn't original (maybe because you see the name all over the place now), but there are still a few who think they made it up.

Neveah isn't a bad name. Heaven knows :D , you could do a whole lot worse (and many have). It's just that I think the name is going to be the Jennifer of this generation with four out of fifteen girls in a classroom looking up when the teacher calls out, "Neveah."
