I remember seeing something like this on Discovery Health Channell.. Its a disorder where a patient gets dizzy/sways when they close their eyes. I was trying to think of it today but another nurse and I couldnt think of it.

Vertigo?
There was a rare disorder on DHC I saw. The dizziness and such only occurred when the woman closed her eyes.

There are 2 things that come to my mind -
First, in a quick physical exam, a Romberg test is common. For the Romberg you ask the patient to close their eyes and stand. For people who have some proprioception problems they will begin to sway/ lose their balance. I believe that it also tests at least one of the spinal tracts but I am not sure.
The second thing that comes to mind is "disembarkment syndrome." I think this is a rare condition that some people get after going on a cruise. I do not think that the eyes have to be closed though. I think the person constantly feels as if they are on a boat.
Not too sure if this is what you are looking for - maybe google Romberg test and see what it tests for.

Well it's definately NOT orthostatic hypotension. Which is a drop in blood pressure when moved from lying to sitting to standing. This is the feeling of light headedness. It sounds to me like vertigo or the equillibrium is off from inner ear infection or something. hmmmm...:typing Probably meniere's disease.
