The other night around the 12 hr shift change, I was in my pt's room, talking with her while I did her assessment. The nurse's station was just out side of her room and everyone was busy. My pt looks at me and says, "You know, before nurses weren't allowed to talk in the hallways!"
I didn't know what to say so I kept going with what I was doing. She spent the rest of the evening hollering at the nurses in the hall and wanting to see the doctor about the meds we were giving her, most of which were her home meds. I guess she didn't trust us noisy nurses.
I'm thinking no matter how much education we get, we'll still be somebody's maid. I love my job, but sometimes I get tired of being told by pt's family members that they want me to fetch them a cup of juice for themselves not the pt. There are times I feel like a waitress.
I'm done. Thanks for listening. Please don't flame me. I had a busy night.
