What do you have to wear???

Published

I'm starting a new job, my first hospital job as an RN on the Surgical Floor. I've been at the doctors office for about 5 months now, and I wore whatever scrubs I wanted. I'm going to miss all my cute scrubs that I haven't had that long :( Anyway, my floor has two colors... all white or all royal blue, and they can be mixed matched. But it's just those two colors.

So what do you have to wear and where do you buy your scrubs?

White which I do NOT like.

I buy scrubs online or from local scrub shops.

I can wear whatever color/print I choose! ONE good thing about where I work.

Specializes in Med-surg, ortho, tele, float.

RNs can wear navy blue, white, or prints that are mostly navy or white in background. I am one of the cheapest people that I know, so I ususally just get my scrubs at a discount store and only solid colors. I would love to wear all white.... but I am not brave enough.

Specializes in Geriatrics, Home Health.

I work home health, and I can wear scrubs or street clothes. I wear street clothes.

I only had 1 job that required scrubs, and staff were color-coded. Nurses wore sky blue, CNAs wore Caribbean blue. Fridays we could wear what we wanted.

I have no problem with color coding as long as it isn't white, which is impossible to keep clean and shows everything.

We USED to be able to wear whatever we wanted, but as of Jan 1st now we are color-coded. RN's navy and white...CNA's burgandy...Lab hunter green...Respiratory tan...and so on. We are a small rural hospital and our pts loved the bright pretty scrubs that we used to wear. Now it's just depressing and boring. The BOD seems to think our pts will be able to tell us apart easier if we are color-coded. Really? Most of our pts all know us by name......not the color we are wearing, but what do I know.

Specializes in Neuro, ER, Trauma.

You have to wear navy or white. You can mix match or wear a white lab coat.

We can wear whatever we want, whew! OB and AC has to wear the light blue scrubs provided by the hospital, other than that, we're free to choose!

Most of the hospitals in my area have gone to white tops and navy or white on the bottom. The whole idea being the patients couldn't tell a nurse from a tech from the housekeeper or the therapist. So they color coded departments. Mostly I see it doesn't help. The patients don't tend to know the system. I would tell them...... if you need a nurse and I am not available, just look for anyone wearing white at all and they can help you out. They would be so confused they would see the techs in all navy and think it was a nurse. The idea is nice but in reality doesn't help the patients as much as the staff to know who is who--unless they know the system. Me I think its silly to have housekeeping and dietary in scrubs at all. I have seen one place with housekeeping in kakki pants and like a polo style top. That was better then scrubs. I am mostly in psych these days and some places do scrubs and some do street clothes for psych which is different. I tend to mix it up, but wear solid scrubs always. Not a fan of prints myself.
