Im curious, all of us nurses have early starts. We have to be bright and cheery for our patients. But what wakes you up first thing? Coffee, a walk to clinicals and music are generally mine, so whats yours? Is there any song in particular?
Brrr. That's too cold!!!! I suppose it would wake a person up rather quickly, though. The 50 degree constant temperature in my bedroom!
I wake up by brushing my teeth, taking a shower, and gulping down something with caffiene-- usually black tea, coke, or coffee. It varies day to day by what I have in my cupboard.
I am a tea nut. I enjoy coffee sometimes also, but it reminds me of drinking tar so I try to steer clear. I always bring tea with me, but I dont like bringing it in with me because I feel unprofessional, so i arrive a few minutes early and sip it in my car. Also on my drive to clinicals I put on a CD that calms my soul, such as Jazon Mraz:redbeathe
A shower is a must for me. Even though I am far from a morning person, the extra 30 minutes it takes me for a shower and blow drying my hair is worth it. It could be the crappiest day ever, but at least I feel clean and fresh.
Coffee or an energy drink, and a bit of breakfast with protein. I prefer something with peanut butter, or an egg.
On my way, I listen to punk music and sing/shout along with it. You can't be half awake after that!

Usually a really annoying cell phone alarm wakes me up in the morning. Either that or a really dry mouth and some sweating. Then I go puke, try to get the booze off my breath, and head to the hospital. If I start gettin' the shakes in the car I take a slug from the flask of whiskey under the driver's seat.. If that one's empty there's usually some vodka in the trunk, however this is undesirable because it forces me to pull over on the interstate. Follow all that up with half a container of orange Tic-Tacs and your breath is as fresh as a moviestar's.
If things are really bad and its Sunday, or I can't get booze for some other reason I just vie for a patient either in DTs or with bad anxiety so I can pop some of his/her benzo's.
If all else fails I'll take a bottle of Virex to the bathroom with me and choke down just enough to take the edge off.

Dude, are you serious?!?! Whether you're serious OR just kidding, you need kicked out either way. Seriously. That's not funny.
Anyway, what usually wakes me up actually IS a really annoying alarm on my cell. I usually set it to that classical song "1812 Overture." It's the REALLY loud classical song they often play at fireworks shows. LOL Either that or Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Big Butts" song. Now that's REALLY annoying. lol
