Im curious, all of us nurses have early starts. We have to be bright and cheery for our patients. But what wakes you up first thing? Coffee, a walk to clinicals and music are generally mine, so whats yours? Is there any song in particular?
I just had my second day of clinical rotations in med/surg today.
For me it's anxiety. I try to calm myself down by listening to music on the way in. My parents have been so kind to keep the children over night on Wednesdays, they've been a blessing. All I have to worry about is me:wink2:
Alarm clock 4:30 am, Cell phone alarm 4:35 am, PDA 4:40 am. Steaming hot jacuzzi bath 4:41-5:05 am. Hair dryer 5:07 am -5:15 am. Dressed, high fiber granola bar, giant diet pepsi max. Sounds of puppies wanting to be fed. leave at 6 am JIC of traffic, arrive around 6:30- 6:45 while drinking another diet pepsi max.
What really wakes me up are the smiles on the residents faces when I walk in the door (we're in a LTC this rotation) they're so happy to see us. It's infectious.
Even on preplanning the day before I take some time to talk to those that I've met. I know i'm incompetent and know NOTHING (it's only week four) but at least I can make them smile and show an interest in them

Oh, ok. I know that I definitely want someone who -kids- about being a drug addict/alcoholic taking care of my family. I'm sure your instructor would think it is hilarious, too! LOL
[Not the sarcasmn, haha].
Sorry to be so hateful, but I take stuff like that seriously!
