I will be graduating from nursing school in May, and is just curious about what type of things do new graduates do when they become a nurse. My plans is to invest in a house and maybe a new car. I have a 10-year old son and he is really looking forward to this. Do you think this is possible with the income new grads will start off making?
Buy the way, in my state (MI) most hospitals start btw 22-24 dollars an hour.
Just curious, RN in 07' :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:
Getting out of the enormous amount of debt that hubby and I have somehow accumulated...
We are going to pay off our credit card, a private loan from the bank, a loan from my parents, and the remaining year I have left on my vehicle...to the tune of $10,000!!!
Luckily, hubby got a second job as a security officer at an apartment complex which allows us to live in a 3br apt for free! That is an amazing opportunity to help the process.
Then we are going to save up for a house, start a savings account, and maybe then I can get a new vehicle. We are also planning to start a family very soon!
My first paycheck comes this Friday and I am so excited to see what it is going to look like. I am also excited to have medical and dental insurance finally and a 401k plan.
A group of classmates and I have decided that with our first check we will spend every single penny leaving just enough for lunch and gas to get to work until the next one, to take away the burden of never being able to shop like we wanted to while we were in Nursing School!!! Can't Wait!
Now THERE is a most EXCELLENT idea! only ... make sure it's only the FIRST check but not EVERY check! LOL
have fun!

That sounds great, especially the free apt! wow!
You know, this sounds pretty boring, but when I started earning a paycheck we paid off every single bill the moment it arrived, lol...nothing had to "wait until the next check"! And then, seeing the balance in that checking account growing is just a marvel to behold
My hubby and I live pretty reasonably, always have, and have been fortunate enough to buy pretty much whatever we needed or wanted anyway on his generous income. HOWEVER, that said, it's nice to know I *CAN* buy whatever I want without ANY guilt!
Actually, come to think of it, this was good: The winter holidays with the kids had me pressing "Place Order" online for absolutely anything I wanted for them, without consideration of what I'd already spent. THAT was VERY nice :)

For someone who has been living paycheck to paycheck, both on my own and watching my parents struggle with this the entire time I was growing up...that does not sound boring at all! It sounds like heaven!
No more rotating who gets paid late or not at all! No more late fees or interest rate increases! I can tell that credit card company to lower my rate or cancel my card and not worry about needing it later for groceries or gas! Hubby and I can finally go out and have some fun...instead of water and no appetizer...splurge a little...have a sweet tea;) or a margarita! We can finally have a savings account for emergencies instead of a high interest half-maxed credit card! No more borrowing money from my parents or the bank when we get in a jam! We may even be able to take a vacation (with paid leave!!!)
And don't get me started on what a joy it is going to be to finally have medical and dental insurance!
Ahhhhhhhhhh...nurses do not make a fortune and we will still have to watch our spending patterns, but the near future looks so bright!

You know, reading your post made me smile, remembering when I *DID* have that incredibly freeing feeling of having everyone paid for the very first time, with NO credit card balances at all! A stack of years ago, my hubby and I had gotten too far into debt with real estate purchases and remodeling costs for them, and it was eating us up....we were actually facing bankruptcy just prior to our wedding, and if THAT'S not stressful, nothing is.
But, after a time (ok, lots of time, several years of this) we found we had the debts paid off, the only debt left outstanding were reasonable mortgages on the properties. And we knew that selling one of them would change that picture greatly, too.
So, I totally understand your excitement! Knowing that I didn't have to figure out which card got paid, which one was a little more than the minimum, which bill we could choke up the late fee on....that really was heaven.
This time around, with me back in the work force, the joy of having everything paid off was lesser in that we hadn't had nearly the same debtload as before, just small stuff. Thanks for reminding me what it was like

Whatever you do, don't cancel that card! Lower the rate, and never use it again, but it will be detremental to your credit if you close it. Credit companies like to look at the length of time a card has been opened. (the longer the better)
I bought a house!

OK i have to know what state is this where you can buy a beautiful home like that, I would never afford anything that looks like that here in Missouri
