For people who have access, I recommend a recent column by Jane Coaston, of the NY Times, titled  "When Every Conversation Becomes a Game, We All Lose." She decries the tendency of every political conversation becoming a contest to be won, instead of a respectful exchange of ideas.

I see this a lot on this forum, where members constantly try to one-up another, rather than discuss events and opinions.

Yep, I get it.  If it were one of the liberal judges you might be hearing more outrage from the liberals.  I think this is natural.  Kind of like when the assassination attempt of the Michigan governor was uncovered people went "well she shouldn't have locked them down like that".

But like I said, shouldn't it be a given that attempted murder of a judge is something to be condemned? TMG said so and you were the one that brought up Schumer and he responded.  Then you accused him of deflecting.  What am I missing?

When I wrote this:

I have to wonder if Shumer's comments incited the man who was charged with attempted murder of Justice Kavanaugh?

I want to tell you, Gorsuch; I want to tell you, Kavanaugh: You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price,” Schumer said. “You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.

" The Justice Department has charged California resident Nicholas Roske with attempted murder, alleging he appeared in Kavanaugh’s Maryland neighborhood early Wednesday morning with a gun."

" In the suitcase and a backpack, Roske had a Glock 17 pistol with two magazines and ammunition, tactical knife, pepper spray, zip ties, various tools and duct tape, the complaint says."

He replied with asking about whether I feel there should be remedial actions against "bad Justices". This was his reply to my post describing what this person was charged with and what Schumer said. It had nothing to do with good or bad Justices. Then went on to defame the Justices further describing they cried and like beer or something complettly irrelevant.  So I took that as deflecting from the topic of the post which did not include anything about "bad Justices". Which also demonstrated minimization of the crime that was committed because of who it was committed against.

In other words, the Justice Kavanaugh's is "bad" so perhaps this wouldn't have happened if he was "good, or in favor by the member.

Perhaps I did not explain it clearly and that's why you missed it.

Transparent deflection in my opinion, doesn't have to be yours.

Nice extrapolation and description of your feelings all because of... what exactly? Do you want to talk about why crazy people have easy and legal access to weapons of war in this country?

It would be impossible to do, of course, but my 'fantasy' would be to put all democrat and republican politicos in a BIG jar and shake the beejeebers out of them before pouring them back out. Wonder what we would end up with then?

I guess there'd be no chance after that of having NO parties, and starting over, somehow. Dream on.

Never mind. I know I don't add anything helpful or thoughtful to this thread.

Over and out.

No, I didn't miss anything and thanks for your point of view.

It's doubtful that Shuman's comments Monday inspired the man to kill Kavannaugh.  I don't think he heard those words then gathered up all that weaponry and appeared in DC two days later.  I would think it's be a little more premeditated than that.

That being said, his comments were threatening, unprofessional and way out of line.  That's not how you talk to a Supreme Court Justice and how America works.

My post above doesn't make much sense...as usual.

The attempted murderer showed up two years after the statement, not two days.  Sorry about that typo.

He did back up and say he meant consequences politically for republicans so he knows he was wrong for saying what he said.  Don't blame the right for this theory and it could be true.  But MTG saying "the left always unleashes violence" is rhetoric, but can't blame her when the focus is on January 6th.

Of the six anti-Biden headlines on Fox News, this one is the lead.  About Rick Scott saying Biden should resign.  He's promoting his 11 point "Rescue America" plan.  (which he did drop the part about lower incomes paying more in taxes after even Republicans criticized it).  But the rest of the plan seems to be in line with the conservative agenda being popularized these days.

There's also a blistering opinion about it in Orlando Weekly.

Scott, however, wants to reframe the oligarchical (read: deeply unpopular) aspects of the GOP agenda as an extension of the culture wars: The “woke” left is sending your money to “undeserving” others; you don’t have to squint to see the racial subtext. From start to finish, this is an authoritarian document dressed up in the language of freedom. Like all variants of right-wing populism, it focuses the grievances of its target demo (a loss of cultural primacy) at scapegoats (the wokes).

To me this is inflated and ridiculousness. I tend to tune out when I hear things like "woke" and high charged buzz words. I often tire of the constant Biden trashing on Fox News. Just as I tired from the constant Trump bashing on CNN.

Thirty-one people affiliated with the white nationalist group Patriot Front were arrested near an annual LGBTQ+ event Saturday in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, police said.

The suspects were booked on suspicion of conspiracy to riot, Coeur d'Alene Police Chief Lee White said at an afternoon news conference. Among those in custody late Saturday was a man with the same name as Patriot Front's Dallas-based founder, Thomas Ryan Rousseau.

Apparently the arresting officers are receiving death threats.

Pride has long had to endure counter-protesters and should be allowed.  Here a few so-called "Christians" from down from another state to attend our Pride and preach on the sidelines.

Drag queens are another target.  With some buzz going around that parents who take kids to drag events should be criminalized (the same that talk about parental rights, I might add), I fear it's only a matter of time for violence occurs.

I'm not seeing how preaching on the sideline is a bad thing.  As long as they are not making threats of violence and committing acts of violence then what's the problem.  Certainly not as bad as the BLM follower that assassinated 5 Dallas police officers at a BLM rally in 2016.

These men were NOT planning for a peaceful protest at Idaho Pride parade from  broadcast video I viewed. The 31 Patriot Front members were arrested with riot gear after a tipster reported seeing people loading up into a U-Haul like “a little army” at a hotel parking lot in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, police said.

Idaho police identify more than 30 men arrested in U-Haul truck linked to Patriot Front outside LGBTQ event

More than 30 men from at least 11 states were arrested in the back of a U-Haul truck Saturday

This picture of men arrested would worry me too if seen pilling into back of a U-Haul...
