How far-right militia groups found a foothold in deep-blue California

This sounds exactly like northern Michigan county commissioners except better weather. I always thought that part of north cal. was always filled with renegade right-wingers and a bit scary so this is no surprise. We have a few districts with no Democrats even running. As much as I would like to run, I fear for my safety and sanity because everyone would know where I live.
This is why it’s so hard to find mental health counseling right now

It seems that the pandemic has pulled the blinders off and revealed how poorly invested our "health" system is in actual health.
"Senior U.S. military officials pushed for additional special operations personnel to be sent to Ukraine in the lead up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but the request was denied amid White House fears it could provoke Russia, according to a report. "

There is no way of knowing if this would have provoked Putin to attack earlier than he planned. I guess at the time they were hoping for diplomacy.
Also there is no of knowing if this would have actually helped the Ukraine Military who seems quite capable. Russia presumed they could march in and take over easily and they couldn't. Ukraine is not a 3rd world country needing our training. They need weapons and money more. They may not prevail against the mighty Russians but it won't be for our lack of training back then.
The US and NATO have made loud and clear they will not go to war with Russia.

Yes.
The article even says that the idea for more special ops personnel was never presented to the white house for consideration. The idea was presented to congressional aides and legislative staff before the military scrapped the thinking after considering the possibility of escalating conflict with the USA directly.
I wonder what the congressional members who sided with Trump as he delayed Ukrainian military aid to be used against russian troops thought about the proposal. They are trying really hard to appear pro-Ukrainian at this point in time.

Apparently they are using it against each other.
QuoteThe war in Ukraine has opened a new front in the U.S. Republican Party's civil war, with party primary candidates vying to run in the November midterm elections attacking each other for past comments praising Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In the article above:
QuoteUkrainian special operations forces have gone through years of intensive training alongside American and NATO special operations forces, including close partnerships with the U.K., Norway, and several Baltic states. They’ve also traveled throughout Europe to participate in NATO exercises, including the Combined Resolve exercise in Germany alongside American conventional and special operations forces in December.
Ukraine is not a 3rd world country that needs American training all of a sudden. They need weapons at this point. Like I said above they've proven themselves capable.

That quid pro quo phone call that delayed American funding for Ukranian training and weapons in the pre invasion days seems oddly relevant now, doesn't it?

You mean like Trump attempting to bluff a nation? He learned from the best. I heard a news story about people from Ukraine calling their relatives in Russia to tell them of the invasion and their Russian family members didn't believe it because Putin has been so successful controlling what they can hear. Maybe it's going to take an exceptionally slo-mo Russian revolution to get rid of him (since he's so difficult to assassinate), and we have no option except to tighten our seatbelts for what is coming. It's all pretty dismal; drink more Ukranian vodka:)
