Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!

You do realize that all of this started after Fauci and Collins said that talking about a Chinese lab leak without having evidence to prove or disprove would titillate and motivate conspiracy theorists...and here we are.
Like Beerman says it's a coincidence that the lab is in Wuhan and the market where it was first theorized to have been found are in the same city. To me it's ripe territory to invent something that happened with a conspiracy theory.
QuoteTo be clear, the lab leak theory was and remains a perfectly legitimate line of inquiry. Even Anthony Fauci has called for greater openness about work that took place in the Wuhan Institute of Virology. And it is surely right to be concerned about the security of 59 Wuhan-like biosafety level 4 laboratories in 23 countries across the world today. But the attacks in the media have become less about science and more about personalities.

My conspiracy theory is the possibility that it originated in the lab and that China covered it up. China is not known for transparency with it's populace. How much Fauci et al had to do with this through their grant program is way out there for me to speculate. I think that animal origin was a reasonable assumption to look at given this has occurred in many other viruses.

Exactly correct. The virus may have come from a lab leak...people make mistakes all the time with lab protocols and none of us trust the Chinese to be honest. It may have. No one has proven that possibility. It may never be proven.
But, as we see, people who are predisposed to believe things without evidence are significantly titilated by this possibility and proceed as if they have evidence of a lab leak when they don't. It's not clear how that lab origin belief would change the American response to the contagion. In fact, many of the people who seem very concerned about a lab leak were also relatively unconcerned about mitigation...Rand Paul for instance.

Like I said during "The Trump won the election" era: prove it. If Rand Paul and Ted Cruz whom have called for Fauci's conviction of crimes have that sort of information surely they have it within their power to somehow get him to answer for it and go to trial. In the meantime they fuel conspiracy and even people that threaten Fauci and his family.
Like I said in all these things I would like to know the truth, but those making the accusations like they know it's the truth that the rest of us don't then prove it to me. I can deal with the truth no matter how ugly if it's the truth.

You got it right.
They have no proof of their claims and beliefs but that doesn't stop them from spreading conspiracy and crap that has resulted in death threats to Dr Fauci and his family. It's almost like these republican politicians are convinced that their voting base is too naive to understand what they are doing and it appears that they are correct.
National Butterfly Center closes after repeated threats stemming from false sex-trafficking claims
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/02/03/texas-butterfly-center-conspiracy-harassment/
QuoteThe National Butterfly Center in South Texas will be closed “for the immediate future” because of baseless attacks stemming from a clash over immigration enforcement at the nearby U.S.-Mexico border, the organization said Wednesday.
The nonprofit center in Mission has endured a firestorm in recent years amid an ongoing lawsuit against the former Trump administration, which sought to build part of a border wall on its property, and the fundraising organization We Build the Wall. Right-wing groups have falsely claimed the butterfly center illegally smuggles people into the United States and facilitates sex trafficking.
Leadership of the 100-acre butterfly preserve said they chose to shut their doors out of concern for the safety of visitors and their staff, whom they will continue to pay.
“We look forward to reopening, soon, when the authorities and professionals who are helping us navigate this situation give us the green light,” Jeffrey Glassberg, president of the North American Butterfly Association, which runs the center, said in a statement.
The indefinite closure comes shortly after the center shut down for three days last weekend, citing “credible threats” regarding a nearby border security rally. The We Stand America event in McAllen featured Michael Flynn, President Donald Trump’s first national security adviser, and other Trump administration officials.
The butterfly center said it became aware of the rally on Jan. 21, when a congressional candidate from Virginia demanded to access the Rio Grande from the center’s property to “see the rafts with the illegal crossing.” The center alleged that the candidate and her friend knocked down its executive director, Marianna Trevino-Wright, and tried to run her son over with a car.
On Twitter, the butterfly center identified the candidate as Kimberly Lowe, who on Thursday denied knocking down Trevino-Wright and said they “safely drove around” her son while he was trying to prevent them from leaving. She said in a statement that she had gone to the butterfly center “to see what is happening at the border.”
I wonder if those who spread and believe the right wing conspiracy theories have any sense of exactly how destructive and dangerous that activity is to our culture and society. From the content shared in these AN threads about covid and politics it would seem that they do not.

Of course, there is more to it than that.
We now know the lab leak theory is a legitimate line of inquiry.
We know that several experts in the very beginning advised Collins and Fauci that it was a legitimate theory. Some said it was almost impossibile that the virus originated in nature.
We know Collins and Fauci downplayed the lab leak theory to the public, and wanted it to go away.
We know the NIH funded research in that lab, and Fauci tried to cover that up.
As a side note, shouldn't the science community share the truth with us rather than suppress it because they are worries about "conspiracy theories"?

You've just discovered some new things that many of us knew already and now you believe there's a big cover-up because it's been suggested that there's a big cover-up as your media exposed you to old news with new speculation and "questions" that are based in suspicion rather than evidence. As a side note, you haven't actually proven that anything was "suppressed"...that's just the right wing spin. You know that, right?

It is a COINCIDENCE that a virus arose from a city with a lab and a wet market? Outdoor markets with live animals are in every city in China so the chances of Wuhan having a wet market are high....hence, no significance that a virus arose from a city with both. Plus, who believes anything published in the Daily Mail? It's our version of the Enquirer.

How about The BBC or the above referenced Lancet?

I think with the issue being theorized, investigated and studied, the scientific community really doesn't have a consensus like they do say on human involvement in climate change. So I'm not sure there is a cover up, but rather much not to report.
But I can also understand..."It might have come from a lab, the US has funded that lab (and at first was hesitant to admit it) and Fauci is in charge of funding....hmmmmm.."

No one EVER said that the Democrats aren't contributing to gaming the system. Probably a monkey should throw fistfulls of ink into state maps and let the districts form as the ink falls. It appears to be a task too onerous for humans. Raven, a chimpanzee, was more successful at selecting winning stocks than 6,000 money managers in the US in 2019. I'd prefer to watch the monkey than to hear both corrupt sides bickering that the other wide is worst then their own side. At least a MSM, liberal newspaper even paid a reporter to write the story. It doesn't add to the debate here when you post about the faux pas of the Democrats because the other side is worst. I have proposed the monkey solution. What are your ideas about how we could resolve gerrymandering?
