No, not a disparagement of her.  More on those who have elevated her.

She deserves whatever she makes of the opportunities that have opened for her.  Kudos to her.  Judging what success people deserve is more of a liberal thing.

Definitely not jealous.  I grew up playing sports, and still am a big fan.  Also love live music, especially rock and country.   I may occasionally have a thought of how great it would be to be a different person.  But, that other person has  never been a poet.

I don't understand the bolded comments and sentiments.  Perhaps you could clarify.

Who elevates her that overshadows her work in your view?

Upon what do you base your opinion about judgement of what people deserve and how that might differ based upon political ideology?

Actually, you did make good points and I see the article a little differently, now.

But, you bring white privilge into it.  I question how one who went to private school, then Harvard, and is a celebrity and best-selling author by the age of 22 has experienced much of the oppression she writes about.

A reasonable question, IMO.  You can debate that, but you certainly don't know what privilege and obstacles I've had in my life.  So, why bring that into it?

I was referring to the writer belittling her experience not necessarily you, but I did call into question why you posted it, but if you feel the questions are legit that's fine.

I do feel white privilege is behind the tone of the article and lack of understanding or even wanting to meet her where she is.

I haven't read her writings.  I know little of her upbringing and her experience as an African American in this country.  If her life experiences have taught her to be a little fearful then that should be taken at face value.  I do acknowledge that it was a heavily secured presidential inauguration and have to wonder why people were telling her not to go.  But again, it's not my place to judge.

I know a doctor that is a well known surgeon here, and comes from a family of doctors.  A very privileged life.  I also remembered he walked into a room, and a patient said "oh, glad you're here, the bathroom is a mess and needs cleaning".  I walked into a room the last time I worked and my patient was on the phone and said  "I have to get off the phone, my doctor's here".

Maybe little things like this along the way in her privileged private schooled life and upbringing and fame and fortune gives her an edge I know nothing about.  Maybe she can write from the point of her people, if not her own life.

A scandal maybe?  That's a big maybe.

In the meeting, fears were raised by then-National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins that "science and international harmony" could be harmed and accusations of China’s involvement could distract top researchers.

I'd say that it's a distraction alright.  The politicians mostly concerned with this "scandal" also largely don't follow the public health guidance either. Rand Paul comes to mind.

In June of 2021 Fauci said "Fauci tells CNN he still believes “the most likely origin is from an animal species to a human but I keep an absolutely open mind that there may be other origins,” adding, “It could have been a lab leak.”

Maybe when the "theory", and Fox News is still reporting it as a theory was initially tossed about it might have been made public at that time.  But for whatever scientific reasons Fauci went with the idea that it was a virus like all other coronaviruses and had natural causes.

I'm not necessarily seeing any huge relavations here but I suppose it worth continuing to look into.

Exactly.  Nothing new...just a rehashing of the same lab leak concerns with a "timeline" that sounds nefarious but is in actuality weak evidence of any imagined scandal.

Why does this specific theory and concern carry so much importance for conservatives and their media? What would be your guess?

No I read the article which seemed to point out the same old same old that we went through last Summer.  So no "huge revelations".  But I'll admit it could be bigger than I think it is

If there is more evidence of a cover up and lies, then perhaps hopefully the congress can get to the bottom of it.   But if one of them is Jordan, a man I loathe, forgive me........

Yahoo News...known to me for it's more liberal slant is reporting it.

The only place a liberal would write something of that low caliber would be in some crazy far left rag and THAT would never be forwarded by any member here as representative of liberal thinking. Yet, we are repeatedly reminded that our conservative neighbors have a steady diet of extreme and divisive partisan rhetoric from what they consider to be their reliable and mainstream media choices.  This type of fabricated culture war is the bread and butter of conservative media in the 21st century.

It's beginning to look quite a bit like there was some very unamerican discussion about unamerican strategies for Trump to retain lost political power swirling through the White House and Congressional communications in late 2020. Does that explain why conservative media outlets are tearing down a young poet rather than discussing the attempted coup? Does this foretell a situation where a percentage of the American population is simply going to be unaware of the evidence and facts defining the coup attempt because their preferred media outlets want them to be unaware and confused about what happened?

I think we are already there.  The fact that Tucker Carlson is still the number one show on Fox is so depressing.

The virologists and immunologists can't figure out where the virus originated.  I highly doubt that Fox News or Beerman will provide us with an answer.  They are just pulling stuff out of their rectums to keep their sponsors.
