Anthony Fauci is up against more than a virus

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2022/01/27/fauci-pandemic-threats/

I thought this was a nice perspective to lean up against Beerman's increasing concern about the viral origins and Fauci's motives.

Quote

Fauci is not naive. He gets that a third of the country won’t hear him. He still understands Washington enough to see how it is deteriorating in new and disturbing ways, as fringe thinking spreads to the central organs. As Peter Staley puts it: “Because one party has turned so anti-science, Tony’s power is no longer stable.”
Yet Fauci still thinks he is an effective messenger. And he still hasn’t totally given up on the people who are making his life miserable. After the exchange with Marshall, and a news cycle dominated by “moron” instead of “omicron,” Fauci told his own incredulous staff: Maybe the senator has a point. Maybe my financial investments, though disclosed and available, should be much easier to see.
As for the citizens who wish him harm, he can’t help but search for some signal, some symptom, that could help him understand.
“I’m always looking for the good in people, that kernel of something that’s positive,” Fauci says. “And it’s tough to imagine that that many people are bad people. And, I mean, it’s just — has something been smoldering in their lives? Something that’s sociologically evasive to me?”
He wonders: Does their resentment indicate an underlying issue that needs — for lack of a better term — healing?
“Maybe it’s pain that they’re feeling, that’s driving it?” he says, as if bedside with a patient. “And we’re focusing on the aberrancy of their actions, but we really are not fully appreciating that maybe they’re suffering. And they’re rebelling against a failing of society, maybe, to address some of their needs. Maybe we need, as a nation, to address the fundamental issues that are getting, you know, tens of millions of people to feel a certain way.

So what do we do about propaganda and lies flooding media outlets?

I think about your question every day but can't come up with an answer.  I just say to myself THANK YOU JESUS for allowing me to live in the best of times (probably:) and hopefully will be dead before the snow catches fire.

We aren't the only Americans concerned about propaganda.

Grifters gotta grift...

Books, speeches, hats for sale: Post-presidency, the Trumps try to make money the pre-presidency way

O’Brien and others also noted that Trump saw throughout his presidency that supporters would give to him, even if they barely had the money, and gave more than $70 million to a fund intended to help him overturn the election.

Nothing wrong with this.   I hate that there are people that pay money for this stuff, but when there's a demand making money is the American way.  Most ex-presidents have benefited financially post-presidency on their fame.  Mrs. Obama with her books, podcasts and public appearances appears to be doing very well.

Some like Chelsea Clinton have worked for their pay, including writing a book with her mother, and with a net worth in the millions clearly she too has benefited from her connections.

Some people capitalize on opportunity developed by their talents and influence and some people grift.  The Trump's are grifters.

There is no comparison between Chelsea Clinton and Michelle Obama writing their books and the Trumps selling their cheap crap manufactured in China.

Yes there is.  They are in legal and profitable business enterprises and they are profiting on their family member's ex-Presidency.  That's the comparison I'm making, not on the quality of the content.

You are entitled to your opinion.   Sounds to me like they know what they are doing and capitalizing on an opportunity.

Years after shuttering businesses selling Trump steaks, Trump vodka and Trump mattresses, the Trumps have returned to unconventional direct-to-consumer appeals that trade on his continued popularity among a devoted base to the tune of millions of dollars in receipts. Even as some of his traditional businesses have struggled after a polarizing presidency, Trump and his family have been launching a whole set designed to target his die-hard followers.

They sell their share of crap, too.

"She's also sold 25 different items of merchandise related to the book, including mugs that retail for $20 and candles that retail for $35."

Barrack charges a pretty steep speaking fee.  One of his topics is how to be a successful entrepreneur.  I don't see much evidence that he is really that talented or knowledgable in that area.  Sounds grifter-like to me.

But, they are making the most of the opportunity in front of them.  Good for them.

Yes. They are grifting and they are quite experienced at it.

Clearly, lots of conservative Americans are unable to discern conmen from competent leaders, the Trump's are proof of that. There's more evidence that the grifters are running the show in Trumplandia...but the Trump family is pretty obviously skilled in the swindle.
