But I keep reading, sort of like not being able to look away from a train wreck.

JOSH HAWLEY PROUDLY DECLARES HIMSELF PRO-HATE CRIMES

Quote

I’m just concerned the bill is hugely broad, hugely open-ended,” Hawley said. “It’s just, you know, the ability and power to define crimes, to define incidents going forward, and collect all that data, it just seemed hugely, hugely over broad.”

LOL

He's so disingenuous...

Arizona Senate Hires Firm to Audit Election

Quote

The county said supervisors respect the Senate’s right to hire its own auditors to review material the county has already provided. Stiil, the county plans to move ahead with the hiring of the two firms to audit election equipment and software. The firms are the only ones in the nation certified to examine the equipment.

“If the source code from our tabulation equipment is exposed and posted online, that could jeopardize the integrity of voting systems across the country,” the county said in a statement issued by spokesman Fields Moseley. “Therefore, the county prefers to use these companies.”

County supervisors have hesitated to allow access to voting machines by non-certified auditors, saying the equipment could be compromised and rendered useless in future elections. They also balked at turning over copies of ballots and other non-public information amid privacy concerns.

Quote

The Senate has issued several subpoenas to the board and county recorder, seeking access to its voting machines, copies of all ballots and much more so it can perform its own audit. The board has fought those requests, saying they were overly broad, while providing some information and trying to negotiate a settlement with the Senate.

The Republican-dominated county Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to do an audit it said was designed as “a multi-layered review that dives into the tabulation equipment’s software and hardware,” according to documents posted with the board agenda. “It will analyze hacking vulnerability, verify that no malicious software was installed, test that the machines were not sending or receiving information over the internet and confirm that no vote switching occurred.”

Republicans are persistent in promotion of the big lie.

Head of Audit Firm Pushed Fraud Lies

Quote

The head of a Florida-based technology company who has used social media to promote a range of unfounded election fraud claims and was involved with a previous effort to overturn election results in Michigan has been hired by the Arizona Senate to oversee the recount of Maricopa County's 2.1 million general election ballots.

Quote

The company, called Cyber Ninjas, will lead a team that includes three other firms as part of the $150,000 contract the Senate has awarded to conduct an unprecedented audit of the county's election results.

But a deleted Twitter account that appears to belong to Cyber Ninjas founder Doug Logan suggests he has already made up his mind about the security of Arizona's elections. It includes a litany of unsubstantiated allegations about fraud in the last election.

"I’m tired of hearing people say there was no fraud. It happened, it’s real, and people better get wise fast," said one post he shared from another Twitter user around the end of 2020.

Thinly veiled corruption and dishonesty from the QOP...surprise.

You're better than me.  I'm not reading the response to me and will wait for the thread to start making some sense again.

I'm just going to just keep posting current events and news that I find interesting or somehow worth reading.

Like both of your posts over so many years are sooo popular!

I admit that trying the new fad of drinking scared children's blood is having a side effect but I have to please my republican friends ????. https://www.wired.com/story/opinion-the-dark-virality-of-a-hollywood-blood-harvesting-conspiracy/

Maybe you can both put on some anti roll bars on the front of your cars to run us liberals over when we protest the glut of laws to suppress votes!

In other news today, Dr. Fowler's defense of Chauvin caught the attention of some important people.  He was involved in some inflammatory cases.

In-custody death reports under former Maryland medical examiner to be reviewed after he testified Chauvin did not kill George Floyd

Then you would know my style is more laid back and I speak my mind which I try to keep open.  I try to keep my anger in check before I post.  Also I do call out liberals when I don't like their posts.

As a result I've been accused of enabling and coddling conservatives.   So be it.  I've never been afraid of hurting anyone's feelings or saying what's on my mind.  I got myself put on moderation and voluntarily left AN for a couple of years for saying what I felt about a person.  (I only hope she saw it before it was removed. LOL).

I don't really care if my posts over the years are popular.  I try to stop and think when I'm criticized.  After all if I'm going to dish it out, then I can take it.

Honestly, I thought your post was a over-the-top and fully of ugly stereotypes.  Obviously you put my opinion in the garbage can.  Fair enough.

No I won't run over protesting liberals, in fact I might even show up, although my protesting days are most likely over as I leave that to the young.  I was there for many a Gay Pride starting in the 80's and my last good protest was after Trump was inaugurated I marched with 20,000 people locally.

Exactly, Tweety, people are complicated. They can be more than one thing. I don't put anyone's opinions in the garbage because it represents them, but I don't take abuse from anyone especially as you appear to be older and should understand the vagaries of age and I think you said that you are gay so you should be more understanding. I'll be 29 soon and I expect I will continue to be immature about certain subjects.

I don't understand why 'normal' people support republicans currently. My ideology is republican, but I have two sisters, two neices and a mother and republican antipathy to women peeves me off. I also work daily with Hispanics and black people and one of my Hispanic workers died recently because he was too scared to get help because of Trump's rhetoric. I am susceptible to emotional reactions like anyone else. I am a very physical person and I've had to work hard to interlectually formulate appropriate reactions, especially to people that seem hellbent on sowing as much chaos as possible. It's probably the reason I didn't go to law school because I would have been disbarred.

I take everything other people say contextually and eliminate emotional reactions, but when people are anti vaxxers after what we've just been through and then support a party that just terrified a good man to his death, leaving a wife and young children and then have abstract, inconsiderate posts because they are removed from the consequences, that irritates me and I lash out. They should at least know that some people see through their *** and the straw people they are.

Imagine if more people had actually drunk the bleach and a far worse event than Jonestown happened? If Trump knew or cared about what he says re real world consequences, he would be more tempered. He buffers himself through his lawyers using money he's grifted to avoid the consequences of his actions. After all the harm he's done over the years especially the last four AND PEOPLE are still supporting him! Now republicans are gerrymandering more than ever and even enacting laws to outlaw peaceful protests. Would we even have America if not for protesting and dissent?

This is what complicated people behave like!

This is about a medically trained nun who is generally quite liberal in her views but because of past experiences has become a Covid vaccine denier. AND THE RIGHT wingers in their usual hypocrital fashion ignores the fact that she's generally pro govt because she's sceptical about big business, embraces her anti vaxxer covid stance because it supports their agendas!

It's a synopsis of how people function in chaos. Shaping facts to suit their narratives. All about the ego! Even at levels like Putin rattling his saber in Ukraine recently as if to the people that matters, all knew what sort of straw man he is, but he had to project an image because people only seem to remember the recent, recent past.

I really wonder why some people's memories are so fickle? Is it because they lack interest in the subject matter and have no reason to remember, even events that would be life destroying for them? (Insurrection!)

Or, defense mechanisms are now so overwhelmed, that repression and suppression are default strategies?

How ‘Cancel Culture’ Became An Issue For Young Republicans

This was an interesting article.

We became aware of the social media algorithms early on because one of our kids is an IT professional. We don't open random links or ads in social media and haven't for a very long time.  We use a variety of search engines.

All of that makes a difference but it doesn't shield us.  Discernment and ability to vet credibility of content is also necessary to avoid getting into social media echo chambers.
