There's been many instances over the years of people being triggered by non-English speakers with the old "You're in America speak English" rant.  It's as old as America is from hatred of the Chinese and even the Irish.  

I'm not sure what the answer is.  Kindness is an inherent quality in some of us but not learned by everyone I suppose.

I personally don't think that the behavior described in the OP's citation has anything to do with left vs. right.  Nor do I agree that making all millennials into left-wingers is anything to be desired. I'm old enough to remember the lefties'  behavior towards Viet Nam vets when they came home. Normalized hate is shameful and wrong regardless of its political orientation. And no one is immune.
