I am curious as to what the partners of the immigrating nurses ended up working as? Did they end up working in a whole new different branch? Was it something comparitive? Are they enjoying themselves?
The reason I'm asking is because we will soon be moving to USA (no idea where too) and we don't really have a clue as to what my husband will be working. In Germany he is a nurse, but has decided not to do that anymore.
How did you all find jobs?
Was it easy?
Does it depend on the location if it will be harder or easier?
Any input would be greatly appreciated! I want to see my husband happy because it will definetely make the transition easier for all of us!
Thanks!

Which agency are you coming over with? And no idea where?
Sorry, but that is not how it is supposed to be. You should be in control of where you will be working, and then your husband could have already been looking for something.

it depends on what they do in the home country. for example- if somebody is a professional, it will be less difficult for that person to find similar job (they will have to go throught sort of licensing exams or few supplemental courses). businessmen can start small businesses (they can find some loan too). us is a land of oppertunities,,if someone is really devoted..this palce can make him/her a star. do not worry about your hubby, give him positive support and look for something that he has been doing or is passionate about.
as far as changing occupation is concerned,,,people change career at the age of 50...so..it won't be a problem...but he will have to pursue some other education....

suzanne, I know that this is not the way it is supposed to be. But I signed the contract and ogp has more or less lived up to what they have said they would do- with a few time delays- so we are stuck.
We just got word that our I140 is approved as of last week, so I am hoping to get offers for interviews very soon.
Thanks Starbin- I know that America is a land of opportunity. I think I just needed to be reminded. My husband is a hard worker and I'm sure with the neccessary support, he will be all good.

once you know which state you are going to you find job searching much easier.
There are lots of online site which allow you to search for employment, we have been looking recently ourselves, some sites allow you to post a resume which is looked at by many agencies/comapnies.
it is hard for many of the husbands to find jobs, but i suppose it depends on what you are qualified in or what experiance you have got.
I think we are relatively lucky, my husband is a practical man who will put his hand to anything, this does make things easier.
good luck
i am pleased to say that my husband has been very lucky and has a job offer for when we arrive, its doing what he does now for a multi national company, they do some of the work for extreme makeover home edition we found out after, which made us laugh.
we are very pleased, its one less thing to worry about :monkeydance:
i really like that dancing monkey

Where ever you get a job will difinetly effect what kind of work your husband will get. It would be easier for him to find a job then you find a job in that area. Nurses can find a job almost anywhere. Where I live almost all industries have moved out of the area and with the largest aging population in the nation almost all there is here is medical jobs. That was one reason I went into nursing, my husband wanted to travel and I f I was a nurse I could find a job anywhere.

I think i face the same worries as that of kersti. I am just waiting for my greencard approval, do not exactly know which state I will be working in {I requested Oklahoma-in psychiatric setup}, my husband has always been a travel agent all his life, has the specific IATA qualifications....and we are worried as well as thrilled to be moving. My agent is ogp too
ambitious nurse, I don't think that there is much either you or i can do until we definetely know where it is that we are going to end up at. then, we can start going through the local papers, seeing what is available and what is possible for our hubbies. it's not too great to not have a clue, but soon, we will know. (i think)
just curious, how's ogp treating you? send me a pm, if you have the time.

My husband is studying for the Florida RealEstate exam.
As I will be at work he need to be around for the kids in the beginning.
He would go mad at the age of 46 if he was home but this way he will meet people and can hopefully work around me.
I am sure this will lead to other things but at least is gives us a starter and stop him getting bored.
