doctors firing nurses???
what the heck was on er tonight? carter gets to decide how much money to spend on security measures, and then is going to fire three senior nurses to pay for it??? when did docs have anything to do with the unit budget, and when did they start firing nurses?? tell me this is not normal practice at any hospital...please.
i have had it. i know they have a medical advisor- does this guy have delusions of grandeur? does he need a psych consult, or one of those metal charts upside the head? someone on this board suggested an episode from the nursing perspective- let the docs take the background for an hour. i love that idea.
let's start a revolution...i'm off to find a feedback link, and i expect all of you professionals out there to send in letters.
back in a minute.
ER update:
Abby gets put in charge of the ER nurses.
Why ????? What are her qualifications??????
How many of those nurses have been there oh so much longer, have more stable lives and don't sleep with their coworkers - Heck, some of them have been there for the whole series practically.
That she is dating Carter, and dated Luka - anything to do with it??
Things that make you go HMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!
Carrie did make the comment that the ER was short on nurses. I was hoping that they might run with this as a story line to address the nursing shortage but it was shoved under to the rug. I should have known that Abby's personal life would get more attention than a real idea for a story.
Yeah, Yeah its only a tv show I know...BLAH, BLAH, BLAH
Does anyone remember when Carrie applied for the ER chief position - and they had to open it up to outsiders, because the suits wanted a "big name" in that position.
But for Nurse Manager, they just toss a warm body at it.
Wow, the importance of nurses in this series is amazing.
More things that make you go HMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!
I sent this to NBC
Do you guys have a clue who really makes ER's run?
I don't think so. Most Doc's are oblivious to what or who runs the ED.
Usually their services are provided by contract from an outside vendor.
Nurses run the ED. How about portraying nurses in a true light. Your TV nurses are either failed out docs, drug addicts, alcoholics or suicidal neurotics. All the other nurses are just background. Get Real!

Years ago when one of our docs was a consultant on ER we asked him about the role of the nurse in the show. His response: "ER is geared towards females 20-40 who like to fantasize about the George Clooney character. The viewers don't care about the female actors." Even with George long gone I guess the writers still think the viewers only want fantasy.
