Nurses Relations

Published

I don't know what made me remember this but I had a coworker once with whom I had developed(I thought) something of a rapport. Well one day we were in the nurses' station and I jokingly made a comment about her not working hard. I forget my exact words but it was something along the lines of are you hardly working or working hard. You know that lame joke, well not that lame but it was harmless like that. Well a few days later, guess what I got invited to a meeting with her and the charge nurse to discuss my attempt to slander her! She said that she felt like I had a low opinion of her as a nurse and my comments left it open for people to believe that she was not a hard worker. And I was attempting to destroy her reputation as a nurse. As broadsided as I was, I apologized profusely for my faux-pas but she wasn't in a forgiving mood. So *shrug* what could I do? Obviously we weren't as good of friends as I thought or she might have given me the benefit of the doubt. Also she must have had a massively low self-esteem or insecurities if she was that bothered by my little joke. I just moved on. I can remember being quite annoyed at first but it's funny now.

A young man, whi is a prince in his country, was working as a nursing assistant one summer. He said, "My father doesn't allow me enough spending money."

Our charge nurse asked him to please get a patient a pitcher of ice water. He flately refused.

He had a list of routing tasks given in orientation stating, "This is what I do. I fill the pitchers in the last two hours of the shift.

She asked him again, "This patient is to dring as much as possible. Please get him some water.

He refused again.

My friend called the supervisor and said, "I am sending *** home."

When the supervisor asked him why he stated, "I do not take orders from a female."

He is now a neurosurgical resident. NOT at my hospital.

I hope he has to assist when the surgeon is a woman.

I once had a coworker ask the NM to assign me to another department (clinic) when her husband came to visit because he told her one night (after he had been drinking) that he thought I was attractive and had said MY NAME while they were having sex!

Oh my....

I stand by my conclusion that humanity has evolved into a race of spoiled brats.

Yes Lawd!

I think I will have this put on a T-shirt and wear it around!

I had a teen-age O.D. in ICU complain that I "just wanted to see her tits" when I was placing the leads for an ECG. She'd been complaining the whole time about what needed to be done, and this was the last straw for me - I told her that if all I wanted to see was breasts, I had a set of my own! Surprisingly, her Mom (who was present at the time) told her to behave herself, rather than reporting me.

I was written up once, about 3 years ago, because of a patient complaint, that I was TOO cheerful. Apparently, this gentlemen was the facility grouch, and I, being an agency nurse, didn't know he was always in a bad mood. I had to be "counseled" by the nursing supervisor and sign the complaint statement. Well, goes to show, there is all kinds of people in the world. :)

I have had compliants due to being a male nurse. I always figure it's their loss, I'm good at what I do, and my patients get excellent care.

i was working in home health, not as a nurse because i just became one (go me) but as an aide. she was old and always picked someone out of the crew that she picked on. Well she sat on her bed one day and asked me to get her a glass of water. ok im not a nurse, but water i can get (LOL), at least i thought so, anyway. so, i proceeded to the sink and got her water. job well done, right? Not to her. she complained that i had gotten the water wrong (how can you get a glass of water wrong anyhow?) apparently, she wanted me to run the faucet for 30 secs before getting it to get the water "cleared out of the pipes"!! lol!!

Okay, now I'm not say she should have actually complained about this (I mean, come on ... pick your battles lady!) but I had a camp nurse when I was younger who used to always let the water run. I distinctly remember her standing with the cup under the faucet and dumping the first couple cupfulls until the water "cleared the pipes"! I've never heard of anyone else doing that!
