Do you ever get called doctor?
I work in elderly rehab, and because I'm a bloke, many of the old dears assume I am a doctor, usually the confused or demented ones, but if it makes them feel better I don't deny it.

Polling our male nurses: What area of nursing are you currently in right now?
I'm in Elderly Rehabilitation, working in it that is:chuckle

What is the silliest complaint someone has ever made aboutyou?
Well maybe it's because this is the UK ??????

What is the silliest complaint someone has ever made aboutyou?
Well I read it Dreamer. I had several very slanderous and distressing complaints made against me by a male patients boyfriend. It was the opinion of all my colleagues that it was because I had (politely) declined to meet him for a drink after work. It was funny at the time, but when the complaints came in................As per my previous post, the complaint was not upheld and was buried, but it went down on my record. Like I said before, when your wrong your wrong, and when your right your wrong.:smackingf

Couldn't agree more. We are often forced to pander to the patients and the relatives.

What is the silliest complaint someone has ever made aboutyou?
I went into a patients room not too long ago, to find a visitor (a very large one at that), lying on the patients freshly made and neat bed while the patient was sat out in a chair. I politely reminded him that it was hospital policy that visitors must not sit (or lie) on the beds. He subsequently made a written complaint about me. The hospital supported me 100% on this issue, but the complaint still went down on my record. When your wrong, your wrong. When your right, your wrong. You can't win !!!!!!!!!!!! I have had several complaints made against me by relatives, all of which have been unfounded and ridiculous. I received full support from senior staff and management, and the complaints were not upheld, but they still go down on my record!!! I am the only male nurse on our ward, even my ward manager says that because of this, I am singled out and targeted by relatives who cannot comes to terms with their loved ones illness, and use the complaint system to satisfy their frustration. Have any other male nursing staff had this kind of problem?

CONTINUED IN WHAT IS THE MAJOR REASON Why are they all leaving?
I trained at my local university, last March, 240 students passed their nurse training at that same university, there were just 20 jobs available. Rumour has it that next year, the student nurse intake will be reduced from 2 a year, to 1 a year.'spose me and mine will just have to move to Australia.

Know what you mean:uhoh21::uhoh21::uhoh21::uhoh21::uhoh21: and don't forget their bowels!!!! And having pander to demanding and ungrateful patients, and relatives, while listening to their abuse and grittng teeth and biting your tongue!!!.

What is the major reason nurses leave?
You don't have to want to leave your job in the UK at the moment, the NHS is making Nurses redundant, (layng them off). But for the original question, I think 3 of the many reasons are: 1. Too much work and too little pay. 2. Work overload. 3. Too much time having to be spent filling in paperwork and not enough time to be a nurse.

Is It Really Mass Unemployment, Or Just Mass Hysteria?
My local University covers campus's in 4 cities, this last spring, something like 500 student nurses qualified, there were just 20 jobs on offer in the areas the Uni' covered.

Will they hire me?
At the end of the day, what you achieve during your nurse training is what counts. Work hard and get a good result and they will have no reason to turn you away. I had to do 2 presentations during my training, 1 practical and 1 academic, as part of my assignments, I thought I was c**p at both of them, but I passed them. So nose to the grindstone and go for it, I wish you the best of luck
