If you come in to be treated for a STD, don't hit on the nurse

If they're young and healthy why are they in the ER?
Exactly my friend!!!
This particular person kept saying...
Why are they taking that old guy first...he's gonna die anyway!
(Her boyfriend...presenting with abd pain, for two months.)
I had only been in the ED a short time at that point...you learn mighty fast though!
Would you like to sign your AMA form now?

How about the ones that say "I'm not going to be a pt here anymore!"Well, boo-hoo-hoo, baby.
Well, boo-hoo-hoo, baby.
Here is where the nurse says, "let me help you get dressed sir" while thinking "don't let the door hit you in the a**!"
Heard a good one today...
One of our FF...
Today's visit was the 4th this week (it IS only Friday!)...
Son (20 something) has had 30 visits in 2 months...
Mom has had 14 ...
Mom was in today...came in for HA...given Motrin and Phenrgan...
OHHHHH MY she was NOT happy!
She gets discharged and says...
"I'm waiting until 830 when the next doctor comes in."
Now...how does she know the shift change times? I mean 830 is not your usual shift change time.
So the doc comes out and say...NO doctor here is going to give you narcotics! God Bless Him!
Soooo...does she leave?
No...sonny boy says..."I'm having a migraine. Will the doctor give ME the narcotics?"
You have GOT to be shi**ing me!!!!!

Geez, have they got guts or what? Honestly, I think some of these people think we are stupid. We have FF's who come in and before they sit down to wait to be triaged, ask what doc is working. If it is one who wont give narcs they go ahead and leave!!

SHE A BIG OL BLACK GIRL.
gotta say something here.....I find this statement offensive. smacks of racism to me. I don't see what her being a woman of color had to do with anything. :stone

I could see how some "lay" people would be offended by our comments..... but hey.......sometimes you gotta laugh or go completely insane. We had a double drowning yesterday........17 yr old trying to save, died. Another elderly female with spontaneous splenic artery rupture was flown out to a level one. It is impossible not to be rather callous when asked by someone in the er for a sore throat "why is this taking so long? I've been here for THREE HOURS!".
I told her............we've been trying to comfort the family of a 17 year old, who died trying to save the life of a young woman. (HIPPA be damned!!!!!)
Her response........a meek "oh, I',m sorry"...........

How about the agressive, intoxicated, early 20 something male brought in by PD. Placed in four points. When asked to give urine, says yes if we undo his hands...obviously not, but I will assist you in directing yourself to the urinal. After digging through several layers of clothes, getting Mr. Happy in position, and telling him to go ahead, he looks up at me and asks me if I'll play with it?!? After another round of this...and 3 liters of fluid, he tells me he ain't giving a sample and there's nothing I can do about it! Well, much to his dismay, you should never say that to a cranky old ER nurse going into hour 13. He learned that if the base of the member is held in a tight enough grip, all bucking will cease so as not to rip said member off at the root. And BTW...urine sample WILL be be given...lol
here's what not to say when you are the nurse manager of the ER..........."we need to be more warm and fuzzy to our patients" (actual quote). I almost had to say that old joke...........what's the difference between an ER nurse and a bulldog? ........................................................................................................................................lipgloss! HA!

Here comes the foley
Leaving would have been a bonus!!
We could not get them to go!!!!!
These people are the most frustrating.
I know they have the coping skills of a flea.
I know they have extremely limited reosurces.
We have given them every resource known to man...
Outpatient social worker set up medications to be brought to their apartment
Family Services set up counseling
Meals delivered daily...free
And they STILL KEEP COMNG BACK!!!
They did NOT get their narcs though (YEA)
:uhoh21:
Ok...I will try to stop venting...
Thanks

I left once because they kept pumping me full of steroids for a migraine AFTER 4 different kinds to no avail. I never asked for narcs but felt like shooting myself I got such bad adverse reactions so I left Against Doctors Advice. I'm sure they thought I was holding out for narcs though.
Coping skills of a flea? Nope, just felt like they were making me sicker.
