I am in search of a short quote or mantra that I can attach to my work clipboard that can remind me of why I am doing what I'm doing when it gets tough. I'm a new nurse and I tend to get overwhelmed when everything happens at once (it always seems to happen at once). It seems that a stat EKG is needed on one patient, someone else needs prn pain meds, another is SOB, and I'm getting an admission all within a five minute span. It is during these stressful situations that I question my judgment and worry that I'm not providing my patients with the best possible care. What mantras or quotes do you say to yourself to calm down, instill confidence, and remind yourself that you are not a super human no matter how much you wish you were? Thanks in advance for your help!

I won't share my mantras because my internal dialogue isn't all that positive right now but I look forward to the responses! Right now I am reading a book about meditation on the go....LOL

I've put the nursing prayer on my clipboard ( just google one). I also always pray before work and that really helps me through. I have great co-workers so we normally use humor to get us through 12 hours. Even when all hell breaks loose on the unit we always end up laughing it off.

Multiple times a shift I say to myself, "Whatever, I'm doing the best with what they gave me."
Thanks for the input everyone! I'm sure depending on how any particular day is going I could use all of these suggestions.
"I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. And doggone it, people like me". LOL

I cannot control what is happening, I can only control how I react to it. It is my mantra for my whole entire life. Especially, when my husband is getting on my last nerve.

"That which doesn't kill me only makes me stronger."
"When arguing with an idiot, make sure the idiot isn't doing the same."
"*I* get to go home at the end of the shift!"
"I can do this."
And I second "I cannot control what is happening, I can only control how I react to it."

I literally wrote this on every test in nursing school I even wrote it on the white board during the NCLEX I have it now at work too
Success is not final, Failure is not fatal, It is the courage to continue that counts.
It's a quote from Winston Churchill but it totally embodies me getting through school and my first year of being an RN

My manta is "All I can do, is all I can do"... meaning I am one person and only have 12 hours to complete my work. I give 100% every shift and that is the best I can do.
