On the previews for next week's Grey's Anatomy they were talking about having a "Code Black". What is this?

Specializes in Utilization Management.

In Florida, it means a bomb.

Our code black means a tornado. I thought though in reference to the show a bomb or outbreak of something contagious like smallpox. Who knows?

Specializes in Education, Administration, Magnet.

In my hospital it is a bomb threat (Texas). But I have seen the show, and it looked more like an infectious disease of some sort. But I don't know if they would be screaming and running like that during the outbreak. That part looked more like a bomb.

in my hospital it used to mean 'Violence' it was changed a couple years ago to 'code gray' due to complaints and significance of 'Code Black'.

Specializes in CCU (Coronary Care); Clinical Research.

At our hospital it is also a bomb threat.

I believe it is a bomb threat in our faciity. I will have to check.

Suebird :p

At our hospital, it's a bit more serious: it means Weapons of Mass Destruction. :uhoh21: (I just looked at the little card that some employees carry around at all times for code meanings to make sure).

Specializes in Education, Acute, Med/Surg, Tele, etc.

Even in my state, different facilities use different codes...but this one is pretty much a given in most...serious terror threat like a bomb or bio weapon.

Thanks! I'm so addicted to this show. Did anyone watch last night when the nurses went on strike?

In my hospital, a code black means "bomb threat" we've had a few of those over the last few months.... we've had at least three. And we're a very small hospital.:uhoh21:

:imbar in our region, things aren't going very well and we've had a lot of unhappy patients.

I absolutly love Grey's Anatomy. It is a great show I wish it was on every night. What I got from watching the previews it looked like a bomb
