What are your plans as a RN?

I don't know if it's only me seeing/reading these posts here like "I don't know what to do", "I can't find a job", "looking for work several years with no experience", etc. It is sad to say that dreams of going abroad to the US will be halted for several years. I am not even sure if the 5 years would be enough. It could be even more. As I have been observed here and from my colleagues, taking the NCLEX, CFGNS, IELTS, has been like a mandatory for them to take not knowing the real scenario ahead.

I have been doing some thinking lately that there should be something done or information being spread to BSN graduates. I think with the cooperation of everybody especially Filipino RNs in the US can contribute. If it takes a sticky with bold capital letters saying retrogression is on going. I think it can be done for starters. It is really unfortunate to hear such remarks from fellow colleagues who are losing hope and distracted in their nursing career. Appropriate Nursing diagnosis would be Knowledge Deficient. Anybody feels the same way? Do you have any more ideas?

For those nursing students, newly BSN graduates, RNs with or without experience, please let us know your short term or long term concrete plans. Any plans you have in mind, post it here. I know a lot of people here are willing to give information or guide you in achieving those plans.

Please be very aware that the MAN program in the Philippines is not the same as the Advanced Practice programs in the US, nor is it counted as that.

There are no Nurse Practitioner programs offered in the Philippines.

Would recommend that you do much more research on this. The MAN degree from there is considered just the same as a generic Master's in the US and will not get your credit for a Clinical Nurse Specialist nor the NP.

sorry, im pertaining to nursing/NP in Australia...im sorry for the confusion...im here in australia and i came from the philippines...again sorry...i just shared my plans as a RN, since there is no thread like this in Aus.forum.:)

Try contacting the nursing boards and councils in Australia, or view their web sites. Deakin University in Victoria is a leader in Nursing so this may be a good place to start. Victoria University, Australian Catholic University, University of Sydney, Nursing college of NSW and more.

It really depends on which state you are in.

anyway this would be a fantastic direction to take so good luck

hello sally22,I would just like to ask if you are already in australia? because I would like to know if the asnc/asnm is really true and Im looking for people like you who have experienced this asnc/asnm application thing!! please do reply, by the way I called the asnm here in the phil. and I asked them If they already have nurses currently working in australia after passing the bridging program, and they told me that they dont have any as of this time.

To all of you guys who were still pursuing a career in nursing...don't lose HOPE...PRAY HARD...it will be answered back by GOD...in HIS perfect time.Just like me....few years back, now i'm here in the middle east working in one of the prestigious hosp. in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as SN-1,having a good salary that one can never have if you're just stay in our country(it's hard to admit it,but then its the REALITY...am i right).Just TRUST yourself and try to gain 1 year experience befoe going somewhere else.there's a lot of difference when you're just studying what you have to do in nursing than actually experiencing it at bedside....GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I plan to gain experience first after passing the Nursing licensure examination for a year or two. As I am working, I will prepare all the necessary examinations and papers needed to be able to apply in the United States. Taking NCLEX, CGFNS, IELTS and visa screen. When everything is prepared, I will personally go to the US since I hold a tourist visa so I can personally see the situation and try to find an employer who will sponsor me. If things goes wrong, I will fly back to my country and find an agency to help me or try to have a plan B like trying for Canada Or UK. But everything is still depends on that present situation and outcomes but this is all my plan for now.

My plans is to take NCLEX and pass it as well as IELTS, CGFNS and visa screen so I will be all set to find an employer for US based work. As I am waiting for an employer, I will try find work or even trainings here in my country so that I can gain exprience, more knowledge and updates.

Unless your state requires CGFNS exam then you don't have to do it and not sure why you would waste money doing it

My plan is to apply as a volunteer just to gain experience. It's almost impossible now to get a paid nursing job. Now I'm thinking, I should have done it earlier instead of seeking for a paid job. I want to have at least 2 years of experience, even if I have to do that as a volunteer.

I'm very thankful I found this site. It helps me connect to worldwide nurses, learn from them and some also inspires me. I graduated last Oct. 2007, RN at Dec. 2007 in my first take and unfortunately failed NCLEX the first time last Dec. '08=( it was really a heartbreaking experience since I have wasted almost 1 year for the application and review (3months) but I'm in the acceptance mode now, I just needed time to think and reflect. I was thinking the money, time and effort for that exam, but as time goes by, I was slowly enlightened; Things happen for a reason and Failure is a part of Success. I was in denial at first bec. its hard to accept esp. this is the first time I failed. It seems that my life stops, the moment I received my result. Right now, I'm back on track, 70% ready to start again and everyday I feel better and better.. Soon, I'll re apply again, review and I know I can make it! I'm just keeping the faith and believe in my ability to pass. This will not be a hindrance on my success, this was just a part of it..

I have lots of plan in my life. But right now I just focused on my nursing career. I admit sometimes I asked myself, is this what I really want? but looking back, it seems that this is where I should be, after all the hardwork and sacrifices. This is it=) I realize that I should take it one at a time.

  • work as a registered nurse in the Phil. to gain experience and apply what I have learned (a year or two)
  • Pass NCLEX
  • Pass IELTS
  • I would also consider working in the middle east before the US
  • work my way to my american dream, keeping the faith and still believing...
  • take a break, travel (because life has lots to offer and lots of reasons to explore and enjoy)

These were just a few in my life planner. Someday i'll make this come true with God as the center of my life.

Think BIG. Dream BIG.

Plans for 2009:

1. Get a job and save a lot of money to help my family.

2. Get a Master's degree and become a Nurse Anesthetist.

That's my plan for now.

Good Luck to all of us.

Specializes in ER , Med-Surg, Industrial Nursing.

hmmm. plans for the future?

I think I should stick to my present goal- to save money.

I'm employed here in Qatar as a company nurse and I tell you, it's not a good idea in your professional growth.

But salary wise, I'm properly compensated compared to what I'm earning back in RP which is only 5K a month.

For now, earning is more important for me and I rather not say those cliche reasons why.

But given proper time frame. I want to be an MAN. I used to teach before in the college of nursing and I liked it. Next plan? After here in the middle east, I'll give it a shot in UK or Canada.

peace y'all!
