What PDA/ Smartphone are you guys currently using?

With all this hype about the iphone and the blackberry, which one are you guys using? I was just wondering because I currently have the blackberry storm 9530 and running skyscpae's nursing constellation plus and LOVING IT! I used to use the nursing central on my ipaq but the skyscape program came with more like the RN notes and other extras. And also to those who uses blackberry, you guys wanna share the PIN for the BBMessenger so that we can all chat about NS or anything in particular about school?

And by the way, congrats to those who got in for Fall 2009! :yeah:

I would just be careful and check with your school and the hospitals for your clinicals. Our class was going to buy in bulk when we started, but we quickly learned that so many instructors said no to their use, and also several hospitals did as well. I don't know why some people live in a cave and prefer less up-to-date information, but you can't fight every battle.

Here is my input..I graduated NS 3 years ago and have had the skyscape apps for at least 5 years on 2 pda's. I love the palm platform and have always used it. I have been a pda user for 8 or so years..I use the pda with skyscape at work, I bought alot of programs and mostly use drugs but when I was in school i used nurses notes, ekg notes, acls stuff, drugs, procedures etc..they are al working fine, I just never updated the programs, only the drug book..

I do not have internet capability on my pda because I don't want to pay a higher monthly bill on my cellphone...so it is really a matter of choice, a new RN on the floor has the centro and loves it too

good luck in school to all

I am thinking about getting an IPhone. If anyone has any feedback on this phone with specific nursing apps. . .Please let me know.

Thanks!

]I am getting an I-phone soon, would like to know anything about it pro or con too. I can always change my mind. :nurse:

I had been trying to decide between the palm pre and the IPhone. I think I finally have decided to go with the palm due to already being a sprint customer and it is also $30 a month cheaper for full internet access and phone and messaging, etc. It is $69 where I live for 450 minutes plus all the internet and messaging I want.

There is a lot of information on these boards regarding PDA's. I have spent a lot of hours reading.

It sounds to me like whichever you choose you have made a good choice.

I did have a Palm Zire but it crashed about 3 mths ago and found out they don't make them any more. I bought the ITouch 3-4 weeks ago and absolutely love it. I use it at work for the Davis Drug Guide but I also keep my grocery list on it, my schedule, and contacts. There is also a handy MedCalc application that I downloaded for free. By the way, congrats and good luck with school!!

I have an iPhone and I love it. I have tons of helpful medical apps. I have a Saunders NCLEX app that cost $40, but it was definitely worth it. (I don't use it anymore though because I passed NCLEX last week!!!! :yeah:) I have Epocrates, which is similar to a drug book (and was free). One of my favorite apps at the moment is an EKG interpretation app because I will be starting my job on a cardiac unit soon. My other favorite is iWedding, which is essentially a way for me to organize my wedding contacts and to-do lists all on one app. If you are looking into an iPhone and are curious about what apps are out there, get on iTunes if you can and browse through the app store. You'll definitely want one then! Good luck! :nuke:

My husband has an iphone and it is great! The problem is that I am with Verizon and two months ago upgraded my phone to a Dare, so I am stuck with that for another term. I am considering the IPod Touch. Is that as sufficient as the IPhone except it does not have phone or camera capabilities? I want to purchase it and use it as a PDA in my clinicals but I want to make sure that I can download all of the books and info that I will need for clinicals. This will be my first year of nursing school starting in September so I am new to all of this. Thanks for your help!

Hello all,

I just got the Palm Pre from Sprint. I had the Palm Centro for about a week and returned it for the Pre. I have been a nurse for 13 yrs. and I'm 62y/o. I am having trouble using the Pre, I am going to keep it one more week and see if I can get any better at it. I want a Palm because of the programs I can get.

Good luck in school, sounds like yall have it a lot better with the PDA/Smartphone use. :nurse:

I was always a Palm customer but since getting my blackberry in March would never return to the Palm. Absolutely love it and there are tons of apps for it.

@My Dream - that is what I understand - that the itouch can do pretty much all that the iphone can. I don't want to go to AT&T so I am going to get an itouch to put all my nursing info on. You can also access the internet with an itouch (but you have to have a wireless code - something I'll check into more later). There's a section on this board devoted to nursing and PDA's. You could do a search to find more discussion.
